LOS ANGELES -- Not that this will cure all that ails the Phillies' offense, but Paul Hoover will join the team Wednesday when rosters expand. Hoover will become the team's third catcher during the pennant race.

In six games with the Phillies earlier this season, Hoover hit .278/.381/.389 with two doubles and two RBIs. The 34-year-old catcher has played seven seasons in the majors.

Hoover leaves triple-A Lehigh Valley with an eight-game hitting streak and is hitting .385 in his last 12 games (hat tip to Jeff Schuler). In 77 total games with the IronPigs, Hoover hit .247 with two home runs and 21 RBIs.

The Phillies chose Hoover over Dane Sardinha, who had also played well in a limited stint with the Phillies earlier this season.

Hoover will be added to the 40-man roster, which will stand at 39. More call-ups will happen in the coming days.

Please get off of Domonic Brown. He cannot hit at the ML level yet. His enormous amount of strikeouts in a small number of at-bats will tell you that. He is striking out 1 out of every 3 at-bats. A catcher? That's the first call-up? No bullpen help? With all of their hitting and bullpen issues, the first call-up is a third catcher, who might get used once a week. Just dumb

The Phillies need some Right Handed hitters, so the question is Why not try Robert Bozied at Reading?? The no brain Phils management stocks up on 30 + players and they need to judge, review and clean house for the youth.
