Joe Blanton pitched well in last night's victory over the Dodgers. But Pedro Feliz's heroics won it. (YONG KIM / Philadelphia Daily News)

The Phillies activated Pedro Feliz from the 15-day disabled list week, and asked what that meant to the team Charlie Manuel said a few things:

1) It provided the Phillies stronger defense at third base.

2) It strengthened the bench.

3) It boosted the lineup because Feliz seems to come up with clutch hits time to time.

We're not calling Manuel the next Nostradamus, but Feliz came off the bench last night to have two huge hits in last night's 5-2 victory in 11 innings over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He hit a game-tying single in the ninth inning and a game-winning three-run homer to left-center field in the 11th inning. The victory allowd the Phillies to move within a half-game behind the New York Mets in the National League East.

"If that doesn't inspire you or give you a lift, I don't think you like to play," Manuel said.

Or watch.

Joe Blanton=Kyle Kendrick. Joe is a great bottom of the rotation pitcher but we already have one of them! Hate to see Blanton pitch in post season as a No. 2. against a Sheets or CC. That's not a pleasant thought.

The win last night just shows that it's all about hustle. Small ball wins games--even if the GWRBI is a long ball

What are the Dodger fans saying today about their manager ?? Torre pitches around a career AAA player(Tracy), boy did that back-fire.. LA fans probably didn't even take notice of this blunder. Phillies fans would've been all over Manuel.. Were passionate, and knowledgeable fans.. LA fans think their at a picnic......

Wally: OK, I'm no baseball genius, but I don't buy the 'free swinger' argument for keeping Shane down in the order. If our lead-off man is doing the job, fine. Then Shane basically restarts things at 6. But we need a guy who can get on base any way possible, with speed, and spark. Right now, that's Victorino. We're not looking for HR's or extra bases. We're looking for baserunners at the top of the order. Jimmy is not getting that done at this point.

What a game, what a LOOOONG game, what a win!!! I was there last night with Norma...I'm surprised she hasn't posted anything! We had several fowl balls come to our section and two of Howard's great catches were right in front of us.

Norma, my apologies. I got hung up on 95, accident in Chester. I got to statue at 7:45, asked a few woman if they were you (boy, did I get some strange looks....LOL). bski, I understand, there were a ton of parents that left with their kids early and a decent amount of empty seats of people that never showed. Accepting a national broadcast was definetly not fan friendly. Don't know if the team has any wiggle room to say no, but it was a bad move. A big kid's giveaway (lunchbox) as a 8 pm start on a Sunday, what's up with that? Being a national game doesn't do squat for local fans, but it makes Monty feel good I guess. And just to make the day better, playoff ticket invoices arrived over the weekend...LOL.

Rollins needs to swing for singles and to all fields...he fell in love with pulling the ball and with last year's slugging pct and it shows....4-4 with 4 singles a SB and a few runs scored should be his goal...NOT a leadoff HR or 3 run HR late in the game...that is not his game, sorry Truth (I mean, Jimmy)......and he's not using his speed at all...Victorino certainly did last night and it lit a fire under the boys and put pressure on the opposing defense/pitching...Rollins needs to be doing the same thing, or is that ankle damage worse than he's letting on?.....Feliz is a bonus, can you imagine how bad we'd be with Tomas Perez or Nunez still occupying that slot? Another thing, as many have spoken here, you MUST split up Utley and Howard, you must..so that situational lefties don't just cruise thru the 8th or 9th like they have against theese guys for the last 2 years whiffing one or both of them taking us down to our last out....this move should have been made a long time ago....

RollinsWasRight....Totally agree with you about J.Roll trying to "shut up 45,000 people". It's sure not working! He's getting booed louder at every swing.

I have to admit....Except for our defense, I thought the game was going to be a real snooze fest. Then came the 9th inning! I got so bored for a while, that I was texting my friends. And I HATE when people do that during a game. LOL! Really glad to see Blanton work out of a lot of jams. We were sitting in the 8th row, right above where Howard made that great diving catch. Of course, we couldn't see the actual catch, since he was practically slamming his head into the padding below us. They need to put that and the ball bouncing off of Pat's head on the *Code Orange" thingy. LOL! Great to see Feliz be the Hero of the game!!!

Bobby - You are 100% right in your description of a lead off hitter. The problem is Shane when put in that situation has not done very well. If you put him back into a situation he is not good at he may become another failure, and that’s the last thing we need in this line up. He hasn't yet learned to be a Pete Rose type player who can place hits at will. Rollins on the other hand is the type of hitter who should be batting lower in the order because he is hung up on driving the ball. Every year I would watch Bowa go from a line drive singles hitter to launching HR's in the month of Aug. and the average went in the toilet. They traded for Dave Cash who helped Bowa stay with his strengths and not HRs. He had 200 hits that season & so did Dave. I believe this is Jimmys problem. It seems like he has lost his swing and focus. Answer -get in the cage everyday and keep working to get through it!

Blanton, (the other Eaton)...pitched just well enough to keep us in the game. Of course he was billed as an innings eater when we got him but when you make 35 pitches by the 2nd inning of most starts you ain't gonna be chewing up many innings....anyhow, except for 2-run Madsen the BP did a very good job again last night and we got just enough offense(3 hits thru 8 innings) to win.....I guess that's what good teams do....of course I could say that once again, this team beat a bad BP....but why quibble?

bobby: I have to agree with Wally on this one. If you move Shane into the leadoff spot, you then have to ask him to take pitches (which is one of the things Jimmy is NOT doing), run deep counts, and be more selective. That just isn't Shane's game. He is an aggressive hitter. I would hate to force him into pitcher's counts and then make him a defensive hitter. I prefer having him hit down in the lineup (although I think 6th is more ideal than 5th), and spark the bottom of the order with a few RBI opportunities, and a pitcher who is worried about the runner on first. Besides, Shane was moved down to spark the bottom of the order, and it is working. Why change it? I might consider batting Werth leadoff for a few games, hitting Jimmy 2nd, and slotting everyone else back from there, just to give Jimmy a break and replace him with someone who does work the count, but it would hurt to see Jayson striking out to start the game too many games in a row.

Dull: Blanton is hardly this team's #2. That is just how the rotation is working out. Based on recent performance, you have to believe a playoff rotation, if they make it, would be 1. Hamels, 2. Myers, 3. Moyer, 4. Blanton. That is not as good as what you might see from the Cubs or Brewers or D'Backs, but would certainly keep you in games and give you a chance to win.

Mark1npt: Blanton was billed as an "innings eater" because he was coming from the American League, where you can pitch 7 or 8 innings on a mediocre day because they don't have to hit for you. You always have to take the notion of an American League pitcher "eating innings" in the NL with a grain of salt. Sure, he can go 7 and keep you in the game, but not if he throws 30+ pitches in the first inning, and if you are trailing when his spot in the order comes up in the 7th.
