Happy Feliz
Pedro Feliz came up huge last night in a 5-2 in 12 innings over the Dodgers.
Happy Feliz
Todd Zolecki
The Phillies activated Pedro Feliz from the 15-day disabled list week, and asked what that meant to the team Charlie Manuel said a few things:
1) It provided the Phillies stronger defense at third base.
2) It strengthened the bench.
3) It boosted the lineup because Feliz seems to come up with clutch hits time to time.
We're not calling Manuel the next Nostradamus, but Feliz came off the bench last night to have two huge hits in last night's 5-2 victory in 11 innings over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He hit a game-tying single in the ninth inning and a game-winning three-run homer to left-center field in the 11th inning. The victory allowd the Phillies to move within a half-game behind the New York Mets in the National League East.
"If that doesn't inspire you or give you a lift, I don't think you like to play," Manuel said.
Or watch.
This is the Phils team we know & love. Defense last night was outstanding! Howard, Victorino, Dobbs, Rollins all had great plays. (Poor Burrell having the ball bounce off his head!)Offense = Feliz & Victorino! Way to come through in the klutch. Loved seeing Kendrick & Hamels pitch hitting & running :-) Let's hope Myers can continued his rejuvenation and sweep the Dodgers (also let's give a cheer to the Astros and hope they can once again take care of the Mets)GO PHILS! Nice all around game....Rollins still swinging for the fences and rolling over everything as is Howard.....are they really working on their swings? This is the same swing Rollins started spring training with this year...not the swing he used last year.... Mark1npt
Absolutely HUGE win. Nice to see Blanton battle through six innings of one-run ball, even though he was in trouble the whole game. I am so glad Charlie moved Victorino down in the lineup where he can be aggressive and swing freely. The guy is just not a situational hitter. Also glad to finally see Burrell hitting between Utley and Howard. That will continue to pay dividends. When Feliz is coming off the bench to get two clutch hits, and game tier and a game winner, both with two outs, and Howard is making diving catches running down the first base line, it says this team is geared up for a push down the stretch. Good. They are going to need it. Their schedule the next three weeks is looking pretty tough. Anybody else notice that the Phils much-maligned pitching staff has the 3rd best team ERA in the NL? If we get back to the playoffs this year, perhaps, just perhaps, are pitching staff won't be such an achilles heel, and the offense won't go completely to sleep again. (Once again, I LOVE Burrell between Utley and Howard, and LOVE Victorino in the bottom half of the lineup...) RollinsWasRight
Anyone else get the impression that Jimmy Rollins, since his "infamous" comments, has been trying to shut up 45,000 people with every swing, rather than just trying to hit the ball? RollinsWasRight
Great win for the Phils, especially since they looked so terrible (offensively, that is) all night. Rollins and Howard again looked lost at the plate. Do these guys not learn anything from their recent failures? Just wondering, how is it possible for a quality major leaguer, let alone a reigning MVP, go 4-46? This team needs ALL of its pieces to contribute on a consistent basis if they are going to make the playoffs and have any chance at winning a series...or game. While the offense returned to feeble, it's awesome the team pulled out another win. MrPhillie- What a game. In fact, what a series so far. Most people lats week were just hoping to split with the Dodgers. Now we have a real shot at a sweep. I'll be down there tomorrow for the Mets and it would be great for the Phils to have taken over 1st place. But first things first. Loved seeing Ryan Howard make a couple of nice fould ball grabs. It almost made me think he still has some fight left in him. But then there's his performance at the plate. And worst of all, getting picked off first in the bottom of the 10th. I hate to rag on him and Jimmy (trust me, I would LOVE to be raving about how they have turned it around!), but right now they are both playing heads-down ball. Offensively, they both appear lost and frustrated while the rest of the team seems to be coming to life. Not much you can do about Howard, but just keep hoping at this point. As for Rollins, I think after the Mets series you have to move him down to 6 and put Victorino at lead-off. So it's: Victorino, Werth, Utley, Burrell, Howard, Rollins, Feliz, catcher, pitcher. bobby
I never thought I'd see teh words"great defence" and "Ryan Howard" in teh smae sentence. Great win. One more and out come the brooms jeff gross- Feliz was the hero, but I have to say Shane Victorino was flat out awesome last night. 2-for-4, with 2 runs scored. Extreme hustle running the bases, and let's not forget that great running catch at the warning track in the 6th. I agree that Shane is providng the spark on this team right now. Let's hope others can pick it up. Go Phils! bobby
Along night, but well worth the wait. Might the boys be coming back to life? Man, is Shane making stuff happen or what? Rollins is really pressing, maybe it's time to let up on him. Kudos to Howard, that was a great effort and catch on that foul ball, now if he could show some offemse. When Madson comes in the Phils should hand out free beer, he drives everyone to drink. jimmymack
Thank you Pedro, and Shane is just playing heads up baseball. He really was the spark that got things going last night. There were a lot of great defensive plays last night...Shane Victorino running back in centerfield, and Howard making a great catch that saved runs.... phigglesfan75
I believe that's the second over the shoulder catch that Ryan Howard pulled off. If he keeps that up, the Eagles might call him after the season is over to see if he can play some Tight End. :) roque32
Jimmymack, sorry to hear that the Zo Zone get together didn't work out. I thought about going even though it was moved to a night game, but I'm glad I didn't. I would have loved to be there, but a 12:30am finish + a 3 hour drive + 2 kids=a very long night........Anyway, I'll echo everyone. Victorino was fantastic. He literally made a heads up play stretching that single into a double. He saw Manny making a "routine" play and made him pay for it. Feliz had himself quite a night for a late inning defensive replacement. If he didn't help turn that double play in the top of the 11th, he might not have won the game with his home run. Great diving catch by Howard and he also **made a throw to second** to get Pierre, but 0-4 at the plate (and still looking lost) and getting picked off kind of takes the luster off. Where was his head on that play? No, don't tell me. bski
RollinsWasRight. It sure seems that way with Jimmy. 0-5, pressing, and looking lost again last night. bski
Finding a way to win thats what it's all about. Thank you to the bottom of the order once again. Last night in a slow-mo you could see Rollins head pulling off the ball. Victorino is in the right spot for now and if you bat him 1st he can't do what he does best and that's be a free swinger. Kuroda for the second time was a force out there and is a great find for the Dodgers. Our pitching has Manny on the run and if we continue to keep the ball away from him he will be a non factor. Myers is gonna throw another gem tonight lets hope the top of the order makes a showing. Wally 24
This is all shaping up for two incredible games against the Mets. Mike H.
