Happ optioned to triple A

POSTED: Tuesday, July 6, 2010, 4:22 PM

LeBron James is expected to announce Thursday night where he will play next season. Which of the following best reflects how you feel about it?
I hope he goes to the Knicks or Nets, so I can watch him play against the 76ers in the Atlantic Division.
I hope he goes to the Clippers in the West, so we won’t have to play him often.
At this point, I could not care less.

J.A. Happ has been activated from the disabled list and optioned to triple-A Lehigh Valley. Happ will report Wednesday and throw a bullpen session for the IronPigs.

It was an expected move, but still a shocking fall for Happ, who was the runner up for National League rookie of the year in 2009 and won 12 games. Charlie Manuel, Rich Dubee and Ruben Amaro Jr. all met with Happ before he left Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday. Dubee said Happ was disappointed.

"Some of our people who have seen him pitch say he isn't quite there yet," Manuel said.

More to come...

Good move. At this point, give him a few extra starts at Lehigh Valley to make sure that his strength, velocity, command, and endurance are up to par. That will give the front office a little more time to see what Blanton is going to give them and evaluate some potential trade partners. At least one of Happ, Kendrick, and Blanton will not be a Phillie by August.

What a waste of a contract on Blanton. The third time through the lineup with that guy and he's done.

Can we please move on from Lee. Get over it. No matter what the article, someone needs to mention that Lee is no longer here. Guess what....we know. Get over it. Happ has been pitiful since his return. He belongs in the minors.

Who needs Cliff Lee. We have Phillippe Aumont. Think dynasty.

Happ and Kendrick for Lee? Please? Come on, Seattle. They're proven major league players! You'll get them on the cheap and they're better than stinky prospects, which would take more time to develop!

You're not going to get anything of value for Blanton or Kendrick. End of story.

Trade him and every prospect you can find(except Dom B) to Seattle for Cliff--ok Rube and while your at it remind Charlie that Blanton is a SIX inning pitcher!!! Unless of course they score 12 runs for him.

Everytime Blanton pitches you know he will at least give up 3-4 runs. You can bank on it.

You know Rube and Monty put us in an awful corner with there decisions. We have no Cliff Lee and now have nobody worth spit to trade for anything pitching wise or hitting wise. But the stands are still full and the consessions are selling like hot cakes. What does Amaro and Montgomery care when there little pockets are stuffed full of the green stuff.

I don't know why everyone is still crying about cliff lee. If he wanted to be here he would have signed and the Phillies wouldn't have traded for Halladay. The pitching isn't the reason the Phillies are in 3rd place it the terrible offense. Werth only hits when the Phillies are up by a bunch or down by a bunch, no one is complaining about him. If Lee was here instead of Halladay the Phillies would still be in 3rd place.

Most people focus on our starting pitching, while I'd say our bullpen is more of a problem. There really is no one we can trade with value other than Ruiz or Werth. I think that is the price for a fairly good starter. I think that we might have to sacrifice catching to improve our pitching. I don't know of any other solution. I'd suggest Madson as an answer, however they need him in late relief.

I really like Blanton...sad to see his decline. Love to see Cliff Lee back...and take a chance on Dontrelle Willis...a bust on the mound recent seasons...anxiety disorder?? I know Rollins is buddies with Willis...maybe a change of scenery would help Willis and the Phillies out...these injuries are going to be our undoing...if we are 6 or 7 games out at teh break....gonna be a tough battle to the playoffs

Lee will end up with Minnesota. I'd like to see them trade Werth and Rizzotti (Double A) for top pitcher. Send Blanton or Kendrick to pen.

Rumor has it that Seattle offered Lee back for Dobbs. However, Rube declined since he didn't want to take on an additional $3 million in salary for the remainder of this season. They then offered to take Ibanez instead of Dobbs, but Rube declined since he said we need a sub-.250 left-handed hitter who plays below average defense. When Seattle finally offered Lee for Dany Baez, Rube declined because he didn't want Contreras to be the only Cuban in the bullpen. I don't think Seattle can put together a package sweet enough for Rube to pull the trigger.

On a more grown up level, did anyone else have to listen to the Pirates announcers last weekend? Their color commentator was an old dude for the first 2 games and Bob Walk for the second 2. The first dude says CBP is a "joke" on the air while extolling the virtues of PNC Park. Granted it's a nice ballpark with a beautiful backdrop and fair fences but saying on the air that another team's park is a joke is pretty harsh. Later on he says "don't ever try to walk to CBP through South Philly". I was beside myself that he would say these things on the air. It was really strange. Maybe that's why they want with Bob Walk for the next 2 games. Anyway, I just had to change the subject here.

Fat joe is a cheap option for them. why pay a haren when you can pay blanton and try to sell him as a solid three or two. That is the joke.

if Kendrick really stinks and should be down at Lehigh,...why in the world would Seattle give you Cliff Lee; a proven stud(and Yankee killer),...for your dead wood??

Blanton a cheap 3 or 4??,...they're giving this cheap 3 or 4 10.5 million per year,...you call that cheap?,...Lee would have played this year at 11.5,....that's why people are peeved and deservedly so

i'd be all for happ to the pen to finish out and send werth and kendrick and singleton for kennedy and harren,..as long as they sign harren long term,...otherwise i'd keep werth if its only for a rental....we can platoon Dom and Fransisco to take the place of werth and finally tell Bumyez to take a hike
