Happ In, Seanez Out?
Todd Zolecki
Lefthander J.A. Happ said today he is on the Phillies' postseason roster as a long man.
Assuming the Phillies carry 11 pitchers, it seems Rudy Seanez could be the odd man out. Seanez said today he hadn't heard, but he was OK with any decision. He seems to have an idea he might be out, or knows but didn't want to tip his hand until an official announcement has been made.
If Happ is in and Seanez is out the postseason roster should look like this:
Pitchers (11): Cole Hamels, Brett Myers, Jamie Moyer, Joe Blanton, Brad Lidge, J.C. Romero, Ryan Madson, Chad Durbin, Clay Condrey, Scott Eyre and Happ.
Catchers (2): Carlos Ruiz and Chris Coste.
Infielders (6): Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Pedro Feliz, Greg Dobbs and Eric Bruntlett.
Outfielders (6): Pat Burrell, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth, Matt Stairs, Geoff Jenkins and So Taguchi.
Golson. Golson. Golson. Didn't anyone pay attention to the 2004 ALCS? All he will do is pinch run. Joe in Haddonfield
Burnsy, did you see Golson at bat?He looked like he had never seen a breaking ball in his life!He looked terrible. How can anyone make it to the bigs and not hit a deuce is beyond me. bednarick
Truth,Happ was once a big time prospect, then injured he slipped a few notches. He's probably their best pitcher in the minor leagues. Carasco is a few years away. Kendrick was never a big prospect guy. Plus Leftys mature later and stay around forever. Is he a sure thing ? NO... But as their salaries escalate, Phils need these young (low salaried )players to step up..What's Howards salary next year ? My guess 13 million.. No way this team goes after Big ticket pitchers, like Santana's 21mill. As this year has proved, open check books, guarentees nothing. How much more can the Mets spend ? Fiscal responsibility is not a bad thing. It pays their existing players, not some high priced free agent, that may be a bust. Pay the players according to what they've done for their team. Big ticket free agent center fielders, Rowand, Hunter had average years. no where near worth the money they were paid. Jones, in LA 19 million he was on the bench by May.. pat h
we need the extra bat not extra relievers what about adam eaton lol budda
I'm good with Happ. Seanez makes me nervous. No explanation. Just gut feeling. I would have loved to Marson play, but at what expense. Now with Burrell questionable, we need that 6th outfielder. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but....I'm glad it's Taguchi. He had a good game on Sunday. And forget about Golson! Like a couple of others said, he was terrible in Sun. game. Maybe we can talk MLB into a new category.....Designated Runner! Norma
I'm not sure the front office did a good job looking ahead, because our RH's off the bench are dreadful...actually, they are pathetic hitters and marginal at-best fielders. I can't believe there wasn't SOME other option the team could have brought in at the deadline. Overall, I think the playoff roster is as good as it could get. Other than the aforementioned righthanded hitters, the team looks good. Also, I think Myers gets one start in this series and if it is likehis past two starts, Blanton should get the call in his place next series, unless he is needed Sunday. MrPhillie
Simply devastating for Eaton Palm Coast Jimmy
I have breaking news for you Zo. I posted this under Murph's blog too so everyone can see this. It seems that the play by play announcer for the Brewers will be doing play by play for the Phillies-Brewers game on TBS. Can you believe this? His name is Brian Anderson & the Phillies are getting a raw deal because at the very least, Larry Andersen should be there or Tom McCarthy. On top of that, Joe Simpson of the Braves will be his partner in the booth. Us Phillie fans should be fired up over this & it's just another reason for them to get by this series so at least their games in the NLCS will be shown on Fox (although after what McCarver did the other day, I'm not so keen on watching them too). This info courtesy of the #1 Phillies fan in Connecticut!!! badjake35
One more thing Zo...You're from Milwaukee & you're relatively young. Surely you had to be a Brewers fan growing up. If so, then you've obviously suffered through the Brewers losing seasons. Sure you had 1987 with that win streak at the beginning of the season (including Juan Nieves' no-hitter) but other than that, nothing. So us Phillie fans are wondering if you'll be secretly rooting for the Brew Crew or for the team you now cover. My guess is deep down you're a little torn but when push comes to shove, you want a parade in this town for the Fightin' Phils. Keep up the good work Zo as you & Murph do a great job. GO PHILLIES!!!! GET WELL PAT!!! badjake35
Truth- I agree with you, I'm not ready to anoint Happ the next Steve Carlton but he's a better pitcher right now than Seanez which is why I think the team is right to put him on the roster; I like him as he long guy if one of the starters struggles. Taguchi is a better option than Golson right now because he can hit, Golson can't and Bruntlett and Taguchi can run if needed, not as fast as Golson but they'll be fine. Let's get ready to roll, is there anything better than payoff baseball? Rock CBP tomorrow, boys and girls- GO PHILS!!! KMG
What the ****!!!! The Brewer's announcers??? Why can't they at least have the Phils announcers in Philly and the Brews announcers in Milwaukee? Boo hiss!!!! Norma
golson proved he couldnt hit, he was overmatched. he also looked shaky in the field. taguchi is a veteran. good decision. shoeshineboy
Would have had Seanez on the roster myself. Happ is not a reliever. Probably won't matter though.... GO PHILS!!!!!!! James TL
