Hamels vs. Santana I

POSTED: Friday, April 18, 2008, 11:03 AM

Cole Hamels vs. Johan Santana. Yeah, that should be good.Cole Hamels said Wednesday that he couldn't care less about who he's pitching against tonight at Citizens Bank Park.

Hey, that's OK.

But everybody else does.

It doesn't get much better than Hamels vs. Johan Santana. When the Mets acquired Santana from the Minnesota Twins this winter, everybody envisioned games between two of the best lefthanders in baseball with two of the best changeups in baseball. Hamels vs. Santana should boost what already is growing into one of the better rivalries in baseball. Tonight's game is sold out. Tomorrow afternoon's game is sold out, and just a few tickets remain for Sunday's series finale against the Mets. So it should be a good atmosphere. And well-pitched games from Hamels and Santana should only add to the excitement tonight.

*

The Phillies offense showed some life in yesterday's 10-2 victory over the Astros.

Think Chris Coste deserves another start tonight? He's hitting .400 while Carlos Ruiz is struggling.

*

In the Phillies Notebook, Brett Myers has his second consecutive quality start, Jimmy Rollins' MRI results and more.

*

Pitching match ups for the Mets series.

It doesn't matter how many times you lead the league in runs scored, if you can't beat another teams aces you'll never win a World Series.

John...it's all in jest...just like bustin' b---s! Love getting Filly fans all fired up. Stimulates debate! But I meant what I said about SF...most un-American, secular progressive, freak infested city in the country. Gave us people like Feinstein, Boxer and the witch Pelosi.

Evan Longoria signed a 9 year contract after 6 games with the Rays. Where are all the Ryan Howard bashers now?

I remember some our infamous bloggers telling us that you can't sign a long-term contract with a player until his sixth year because "that's the way the system works". Those bloggers supported the low ball tactics of the Phils. Now look at the 9 year contract of Evan Longoria after just 6 games.

Wiz, hate to break the new, but you're not getting anyone "all fired up." Just making yourself look like a bozo. Seriously, this is a pretty friendly and respectful board and you're just not fitting in. All the best to you elsewhere.

Just ignore Wiz, he's a typical NY tool. Delusional as he is at times, at least Truth is from Philly. BTW, the big guy is certainly earning his well deserved paycheck at bat and fielding so far this year.

Last I heard, J.Roll won't be back until Sunday's game. He's coming home today from his uncle's funeral. Guess he'll need running drills, etc. for clearance to play.

Now I'm not *bashing* Ryan, but...........What the heck was he thinking when he went after that infield ball? Isn't that the error he was charged for? Shouldn't Bruntlett have gone after it? And I HAVE gotten over his multitude of strike-outs. I agree with Mitch Williams. And out is an out. And Mitch said he'd rather see him strike out than hit into a double play.

You have Howard for HR's and RBI's...not high BA or OBP...and especially not for defense. Maybe he'll improve to "adequate" defensively IF he works on it. The Mets Delgado, while slightly better defensively than Howard, is still not going to get anywhere near a GG either. The Braves certainly have the edge in NL East 1rst basemen.
