The Phillies said that lefthander Cole Hamels is expected to make his next start after X-rays were negative on a right hand contusion. Hamels left today's game with the visiting Boston Red Sox after the fourth inning with the injury.

He suffered the injury after being hit with a line drive off the bat of Adrian Gonzalez in the fourth inning. Hamels’ glove flew off, but he picked up the ball and threw Gonzalez out for the second out

Hamels was checked by the medical staff, stayed in the game and got Dustin Pedroia to ground out to third for the final out.

He was replaced to being the fifth inning by righthander David Herndon. Hamels pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits.
