Halladay open for trade
ST. LOUIS - American League All Star starting pitcher Roy Halladay says he is open to the idea of being traded. "There's a point in your career where you need to just take a chance and win," Halladay said Monday at an All Star press conference. "I think at this point, I'm ready to take the chance and try to win." The Toronto Blue Jays pitcher indicated he'd be willing to be traded without first agreeing to a contract extension. He is signed through 2010. The Phillies have expressed interest in acquiring Halladay, who is 10-3 with a 2.85 ERA.

Any chance that the Phils have talked Moyer into retiring after the Halladay trade? robjan- flyerdup...you're right this team was built through the minor league system...the keyword there is built. The starting 8 is in place for the forseeable future. Can we really afford to wait for Drabek, Carrasco, Savery to blossom? btw, we wouldn't be trading all the of them. The beauty of having minor league depth is you can move some for major league talent. We gave up 3 pretty high guys last year for Joe Blanton. We won a WS, so the future price we paid will be worth it. Now is the time to move guys to fill our holes. Clearly starting pitching is a hole. booman55
- Happ isn't going anywhere.
First off not a chance we give up 4 or 5 guys. Djacobs is not too bright... Knapp, carasco, brown should do it. maybe throw in Donald. No reason to trade haap if we can add in a 4th prospect. fman727- Another thing to consider is perhaps the Phillies are doing a much better job of hyping their prospects. This is something the Yankees and Braves have done masterfully over the years. Remember a year ago Marson, Donald, Carrasco, Cardenas, Outman were the picks of the litter. We traded the last two for Blanton and the others have now taken a backseat to the flavors of the month. Bottom line is prospects as such that prospects, nothing more. If you got a chance to get Halladay you do it. Bedard no, Halladay yes! booman55
As much as JA Happ has impressed me this year, I would do Werth, Happ & Carrasco for Halliday and Rios. The Jays get 2 young pitchers and an upgrade in the OF, while dumping a ton of salary. They want more? How about that Kyle Kendrick, who has been pitching well lately. The untouchables: Drabek, Donald, Taylor, Marson lwrslwrfan- $$$$$$$$$$ Phillies Brass is saying they can't afford him! Can't some investors advance the Phillies some money and get repaid after the team gets to the play offs! LAME EXCUSE! Philies: Do you want to win!???
- Go ahead. Give Happ away. It's about time for another Gavin Floyd-type giveaway of a great young arm. All Happ can do for you is pitch 7 innings or more and keep you in every game. Who needs that? And since we play the Blue Jays every year we can all watch him mature into a top flight starting pitcher, as if he hasn't already.
Leave him in Toronto..he's old and would cost way too much... merlinknghts
Trade Hamels, not Happ! Delaware Jim
no, no, no, Toronto will accept Brown/Mayberry, marson, donald and Happ. Anymore it is no deal. No one else can offer them that much. I am not giving up Taylor or Drabekk, or anyone else. We have the hammer travellin
no, they're not trading him in division. phils are a good bet, and it will cost at least one of Happ, Drabek, or Taylor... with a couple guys at the next level (Carrasco, Bastardo, etc.). personally, i think anytime you're a contender and can get the best pitcher in baseball, go ahead and do it. happ and drabek and taylor are all hot, but that just gives you hope that someday one of them will approach hallday's value. if there EVER was a time to trade prospects, it's now.. for the best. DON'T TRADE J.A. HAPP!!!!!! downtheshore
This may be over the top but so be it....I'd trade Hamels before Happ at this point....Hamels is starting to remind me of being Von Hayes reincarnated as a pitcher....all hat and very little cattle... downtheshore
