That's all we know right now. Don't shoot the messenger. If you're not watching the game, he rolled his ankle while attemping to field a bunt in the fifth inning.  He had been pitching a shutout.

Hey at least he lasted an inning longer than his last start before getting hurt. Is Cole planning on having an injury in every start this year?

Does the Phanatic have a changeup? We know he can take a fall.

Better his left ankle than his left elbow.

One other thing- if Lidge has a knee problem, shut him down now- I'd rather give him April and early May to recover than deal with the problem in September/October.

Good point, KMG. As someone else pointed out on the previous thread, the pitching staff is very thin already. So I say put Lidge on the DL, maybe Hamels will end up there too, and get some fresh arms in here quick. Get healthy and then work the injured back into the roster.

Just think what our record would be if we had a healthy staff?

typical philly fans!! The team is now 11-8 in April, which is MUCH better than the last several years and yet you NITWITS still find the negative things to focus on. I think you all must have been the same band wagon jumpers from late last year. JUST MY OPINION!!

Bill R4,I wouldn't say us Philly Phans are NITWITS as you say....One World F'N Championship does not was away decades af futility and failures,it DOES help, but we are programmed to expect the other shoe to drop at any time. Most Phillies Phans are not bandwagon jumpers,I flew back to Philly for the Parade after the series,I waited 28 long long years for that,I wouldn't call that bandwagon phandom.BTW,how's YOUR ankle from jumping on and off????

Bill R4, a question: What the heck are you talking about? Who's being negative? I don't know what fantasy land you live in, but in the real world, posting opinions about how to handle 2 sudden key injuries to the pitching staff is what you do. I sense that you have deeper issues.

Bill- I wasn't being negative. I think this team has one of the the best lineups in baseball. We saw what their pitching can do last September-October, if they are healthy. I want the ace and the closer to be healthy because if they are I am convinced that they can repeat. Would you rather I voiced concern over Mike Zagurski's rehab in Allentown?

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Follow him on Twitter here.

Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
