Grape 12: Nationals at Phillies

CLEARWATER, Fla. — It is believed the Phillies have never faced the Washington Nationals during Grapefruit League play. The Nationals train in far-away Viera and rarely make trips to the Gulf Coast.

They arrive Wednesday with Stephen Strasburg.

The young star will oppose Roy Halladay in a fun matchup for early March. Washington did not bring many of its regular position players; Denard Span is the lone exception.

Meanwhile, Charlie Manuel will hold Darin Ruf out of Wednesday's lineup. That could be for two reasons: One, winds are gusting at 30 m.p.h. and it could make left field an adventure. Two, he does not want Ruf to suffer more indignation at the plate with a strong starter on the mound.
