Gload placed on paternity list; Mayberry returns

PITTSBURGH -- The stay at triple-A Lehigh Valley lasted all of one day for John Mayberry Jr.

The outfielder is back in Pittsburgh with the Phillies to replace Ross Gload, who was placed on the paternity leave list Saturday.

Gload can stay on the list for 24 to 72 hours. It is a new roster option instituted by Major League Baseball this season.

Mayberry was 1 for 4 with the IronPigs in Charlotte on Friday night. This latest roster move does nothing to affect Mayberry's option status. In an option year, a team can recall and option a player as often as it wants without ramification.

If he spends more than 20 days in the minors this season, it uses up his third and final option year.

The lineup for Game 2 at PNC Park:

1. Jimmy Rollins 6
2. Placido Polanco 5
3. Chase Utley 4
4. Ryan Howard 3
5. Shane Victorino 8
6. Raul Ibanez 7
7. Domonic Brown 9
8. Dane Sardinha 2
9. Kyle Kendrick 1

Vic protecting Howard screams of the need of a RH power hitter on this team.

The loss will occur in spite of brave pitching of KK. The Phils will get their one run and Morton will look like a combo of Roy H. and Bob Gibson to these Little League hitters. It is so sad for the fans and Staff.

You're right, I've noticed twice that he's afraid of contact at the plate and was wondering if anybody else saw it. He's a punk.

Koons- a few questions, if you don't mind...
    1. What place are the Phils in?
    2. Which team has the best pitching staff in the majors?
    3. Do you really think all of these good hitters are going to be in this slump for the entire year?
    4. Would you rather be a Pirates fan? maybe A's? Twins? Orioles? Nats?
Last night was the first time in 60 games the starting lineup has been intact, and they STILL have the best record in the MAJORS!
Did you and the others here forget your Prozac today?

    1. The same place as last year. And we know that last season ended in a parade, right? Right?
    2. Oakland?
    3. What good hitters, exactly? They don't have a healthy all-star caliber hitter in the line-up.
    4. If I were a fan of one of those teams, could I actually afford to go to take my family to a game more than once a year?

    Keep drinking the kool-aid, though.

Another "true" fan here. One that would rather his team suck so he could take his family to the games. Really? Give me a break, if they stunk you be whining that anyone who went to the games of a last place team were "kool-aid" drinkers for supporting a team that sucked.

I meant ronin was right in his first comment, about the need for a righty bat. Not sure we're to the point where the Phils need a shutout to win...
