Game 6 lineups: Rollins leads off

POSTED: Saturday, October 23, 2010, 3:56 PM

Apparently Jimmy Rollins' two stolen bases in Game 5 were enough proof for Charlie Manuel that his leadoff hitter is healthy enough to bat at the top of the lineup.

Rollins returns to the leadoff spot for the second time this postseason in Game 6. Rollins batted leadoff in five games at the end of the regular season and was 4 for 18.

But against the lefthander Jonathan Sanchez, Rollins will be batting from his stronger side (right) and Manuel must like the matchup.

Here's the full lineup:

1. Jimmy Rollins SS
2. Placido Polanco 3B
3. Chase Utley 2B
4. Ryan Howard 1B
5. Jayson Werth RF
6. Shane Victorino CF
7. Raul Ibanez LF
8. Carlos Ruiz C
9. Roy Oswalt P

It's the first time the Phillies are using that lineup this season.

The Giants' lineup is as follows:

1. Andres Torres CF
2. Freddy Sanchez 2B
3. Aubrey Huff 1B
4. Buster Posey C
5. Pat Burrell LF
6. Cody Ross RF
7. Juan Uribe 3B
8. Edgar Renteria SS
9. Jonathan Sanchez P

That's AMAZING! With the exception of Oswalt, you would think THIS is the lineup Charlie would have copied 162 times on his cards! And this is the FIRST time?!?! Been a helluva yeah hasn't it?

So would have liked to see Sweeney at 1st base for this one.....we've got to get all those Ks out of the middle of our lineup.....moving Rollins to leadoff puts some back up at the top of the order but there's still a big hole in the 4 spot........

I think it's a terrible idea to have 3 lefties in the lineup against Sanchez. Should have started Sweeney over Howard.

Charlie is going to go with the guys who brung him to the dance all these years....The Big Piece, has been The Missing Piece for quite some time now. He has been figured out by the rest of baseball now and he hasn't adjusted his game to account for that. I know his power numbers can be affected by his ankle, if his ankle is still an issue, but the ankle has nothing to do with the fact that he guesses wrong all the time, doesn't recognize the pitch or location and misses more balls than any ML hitter ever should. I'm sure Mike Sweeney, a very professional hitter would give us many more quality at bats against Sanchez than Howard ever could. If we play a good sound game including quality at bats with balls put in play to advance runners or avoid killing a rally with Ks, Sweeney can lead us to victory, even if he doesn't homer twice in the game......don't forget, Howard isn't hitting homers, either.

No problem with J-Roll back at the top, but what would be wrong with a 3-4-5 of Utley-Werth-Howard, especially against a lefty?
Giants will not win again in Philly. Cliff Lee-Roy Halladay, World Series Game One, Wednesday night at Philly - smells like destiny to me...

I think Charlie should put Francisco in there in place of Ibanez against the lefthander. Raul is back into his habit of flailing at pitches. He's at this most effective when his swing is short and compact.

Change is good. Shane has been terribly quiet the last few games and Rollins looked good with the two steals. Hopefully he will go back to setting the table for the guys that follow.

The phrase "Professional Hitter" is over-used and rarely applies, especially when used in conjunction with Raul Ibanez or Mike Sweeney.

I'm glad to see a regular lineup restore somewhat. You have to go in with the big guns. Don't let San Fran dictate who you play. You are facing elimination, you don't bench a former MVP who has actually been hitting the ball well lately, but there just has not been anybody on base.

Sanchez thinks the Phillies will be waiting. Therefore, first ball fastball. Crush it Jimmy!
