Game 4: Utley and the Mets

It's chilly but the tarp is off the field for the Phillies' series opener against the Mets. Cole Hamels makes his debut in Game 4 against Chris Young, the lanky flyball pitcher who has given the Phillies fits before. But this isn't exactly the greatest ballpark for his Mets debut.

News is slow. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. contradicted a Foxsports.com report claiming Chase Utley could start jogging "in the next couple of days" on his chronically pained right knee. Of course, those words are said to have come from Amaro's mouth, but the GM said at the ballpark that there is no timetable for jogging to happen.

"He’s made some progress, but it’s slow," Amaro said. "And it will continue to be slow. Even if he gets to the point where he starts to be able to run or jog or whatever, that doesn’t mean he’s going to jump forward all of a sudden and be in a rehab [game]. That may take some time, too. There’s a difference between jogging around and running 100 percent. It’s all kind of a progression."

I've never heard of this "jogging," but apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.

The second baseman has made noticeable progress taking grounders, with more lateral movement by the day. But it's clear he's still far away -- like we've said all along.

MRD, you and your fellow Mets fans seem to follow your team to Philly, via the website, and I'm wondering if you guys do this for every road team? That is some pure dedication there...

It sucks to be MRD, but then it sucks to be any Mets fan, or any Met. What a pathetic excuse for an ownership and team. A team playing in, and garnering revenue from, the nation's biggest media market should be in contention every single year. And the Mets aren't.

What a surprise...Hamels getting shelled. He looked bad in Florida and the melt down continues. For all those that predicted a big year for Hamels dream on. And it will get much worse if it continues over a couple of games because then he'll go into a mental funk that could bring some bad stuff that will include over-throwing and injury.

Agree with tooltime. Shut Utley down for the season and start the search for a real 2nd baseman. Oh, and MRD, put down the bong and back away from your Art Shamsky autographed thong...

Even with Hamels falling apart, do you think we could have even come close to winning this game with HALF the hits of the Mets? The problem remains in Philadelphia. WE HAVE NO OFFENSE. We didn't have one last year and dont have one this year! Jesus Christ pitching couldn't help this team. You have to hit the ball to win the game.
