Game 4: Hello, South Philly

POSTED: Friday, April 5, 2013, 1:50 PM

The bunting is hanging from Citizens Bank Park. The parking lots are filled with tailgaters. The sun is shining and a once-ominous forecast yielded to perfect April weather.

It's the home opener in South Philadelphia.

The Phillies are 3-6 in openers at Citizens Bank Park. This opener is unlike any in 131 years of Phillies history. It is the first time the home slate starts with an American League team.

These two teams have not faced one another in six years. The last encounter was a forgettable one for Phillies fans. (Brandon Duckworth!)

The lineup:

1. Ben Revere 8
2. Jimmy Rollins 6
3. Chase Utley 4
4. Ryan Howard 3
5. Michael Young 5
6. Domonic Brown 7
7. Laynce Nix 9
8. Erik Kratz 2
9. Kyle Kendrick 1

They will face Wade Davis, the righty making his debut for Kansas City.

I thought I saw where pregame festivities were streaming live. I live in VA so I watch the games on MLBTV on TV and my computer and droid. Any help out there?

The Phillies were just at Citizens Bank Park a week ago. They played like garbage versus the Blue Jays.

I followed the link to the 2007 game and came away all nostalgic for the glory days of Jose Mesa and Abraham Nunez. How about a home run derby between Nunez and Michael Martinez? That'd fill the ballpark...

Biggest drawback to Revere as #1 vs. Rollins? Pitcher sacrificing to move runner(s( into scoring position: Ben not much of a threat to drive in runs...Jimmy a legitimate threat. Could change outcome of game.

gentian: Do you think that happens more often than the leadoff guy getting on base and having 5 guys behind him with extra base potential? One thing we should be thankful for is DBrown. Imagine if we had dead weight in left and right. Yikes.

What a disaster. I look at the Nats and Braves with plenty of guys in their 20s, then I look at our ancient lineup, and pathetic staff and wonder how Amaro still has a job.

very long season. Thanks that we have the Mets to cover up our mistakes.
