PHOENIX — Earlier Tuesday, the Phillies released an ominous statement from general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. that Hunter Pence would undergo a "precautionary" MRI on his injured left shoulder.

Well, Pence is slotted fourth in Charlie Manuel's lineup and playing right field.

So much for that.

Manuel is using his 14th lineup in 18 games. Here's what it looks like:

1. Juan Pierre 7
2. Pete Orr 4
3. Jimmy Rollins 6
4. Hunter Pence 9
5. Shane Victorino 8
6. Ty Wigginton 5
7. Laynce Nix 3
8. Brian Schneider 2
9. Vance Worley 1

The Phillies are facing righthander Josh Collmenter, who sports a 10.22 ERA in 12 1/3 innings. He's allowed at least four runs in each of his three starts this season.

Also, remember Joe Paterson, the guy who allowed five runs to the Phillies in Monday's ninth inning? Well he was sent to triple A on Tuesday. Replacing him in the Arizona bullpen is old friend Mike Zagurski.

Pence hasn't even hit this guy well -- 1-for-6.

Was hoping our field general was going to work Big Jim into the lineup somewhere tonight. You know, just for kicks.

I think he gets shot out of the cannon in the 7th.

Didn't they engage a Senate Sub-committee to examine those "quick healers?"

with Nix and Wigginton at corners and Orr and Schneider, Chollie really should try Big Jim Thome at shortstop- could be highlight of the year: "hilarious hijinks of beer-league players trying to play major league baseball" ...could market it with next Sasha Baron Cohen slapstick

Picturing Thome and Wigginton on the left side of the IF is actually very, very funny.

Why is Mayberry not starting tonight?? This line-up is pathetic. There is no potential - no upside. I agree with the others- Chuckles is going to stay with those who he relates to...........tired and out of their depth.

Has anyone else ever wondered how this team would be doing if Tony LaRussa was managing?

I was thinking that last year when Tony undressed Cholly in the NLDS!! Thinking man's manager is sorely needed with us as opposed to a cheerleader.

spoiler alert: the Phils will likely win at least 50 more games this season, some of the wins even consecutively, and each time they do the "optimists" will be out there, crowing about the team finally coming around, etc. -- sorry to say I've seen the end of the movie and it ain't pretty
