SAN DIEGO — Carlos Ruiz is out of the Phillies lineup for the second straight night because of a sore wrist. And after a four-run outburst Friday, Charlie Manuel will stick with the same lineup even with a lefty, Cory Luebke, on the mound.
1. Juan Pierre 7
2. Placido Polanco 5
3. Jimmy Rollins 6
4. Hunter Pence 9
5. Shane Victorino 8
6. Ty Wigginton 3
7. Freddy Galvis 4
8. Brian Schneider 2
9. Roy Halladay 1
Pierre is in the lineup for the fourth straight game and six of the last seven. It's the first time the opposition has started a lefty and John Mayberry Jr. has not played.
Ruiz had hoped to miss only one game, but the swelling in his wrist persisted before Friday's game, so the Phillies are likely to play it safe. And Schneider had a big hit Friday, so why not?

So, re: Mayberry, Charlie said that the way you get out of a slump is to get more at bats. Then he said that he was going to get every chance to be the starting left fielder ... that he hasn't given up on John. And then he sits him down 5 games out of 7.
Sorry John. I guess you had your chance. 9 starts was plenty of time for you to prove yourself. Never mind that Ibanez started ALL but two games in April last year. 25 games, 1 HR,2 Doubles, 28 SO, .154 BA. zubzub
Pierre needs to play. Wigginton can sit. Pierre is doing fine. wmontanez27
Mayberry, not Wigginton. What is the matter with Charlie, they have to see if big John can play blaqjaq

They seem to at least scratch out some runs with Juan in the leadoff.

Why wouldn't Pierre leadoff? He's their best leadoff hitter, period. By the end of the season he will have more hits than any of his teammates, just like last season. Yeah, gotta feel for Mayberry, but Wiggy had 2 hits last night and big John was just a weak popup with a chance to break the game wide open, again......I have never seen so many weak popups from one player, not even JPop......something is terribly wrong with John and I hope they fix it soon.....he can really be a game changer for us when he gets going..... I would normally disagree with Manuel about not starting Mayberry tonight, but starting Wigginton instead of Mayberry is a sound decision that has less to do with the chances of winning tonight's game than it does with trying to help Mayberry find himself. Mayberry looked pathetic last night as he came to the plate with the bags loaded, twisted his body into a position incompatable with the art and science of hitting, and weakly popped up to first base on the first pitch. Somebody has to take Mayberry aside already and show him side by side comparisons of his 2011 and 2012 swings. His 2011 swings were fluid, powerful and productive. His 2012 swings look like his 2011 swings would have appeared if Mayberry had been handcuffed and forced to hit with a 100 pound bag of potatoes on his back. If someone on the Phils already has doen this, then someone else has to repeat the process until Mayberry finds out what he is doing wrong and rediscovers how to do it right. At that point, Mayberry deserves the chance to be in the lineup every game. Playing Mayberry now in his current state of hitting dysfunction will not help the Phils or Mayberry. One bad at bat will beget yet another and perpetuate the vicious cycle in which Mayberry finds himself currently trapped. The Phils need Mayberry this season and he has the ability to significantly help the team. But first, the team has to help Mayberry. His mistakes at the plate are obvious. If those of us in the cheap seats can identify Mayberry's problems at the plate, someone in the Phillies organization should be able to do the same. onthebucks
Sad to see this happening to JMJ- I wonder who in the organization is responsible for "helping" him find his way out of this......?? Northcountry

Regarding "mostofthecommentorsherearelosers" ... took your advice.
2nd half last year
Ibanez 230AB 8-37-.251-.291
Mayberry 158AB 10-30-.299-.354
-- No doubt I currently have more confidence in Wigginton's bat right not. Just like I have more confidence in Mayberry's glove.
Let the kid play. He may have a future here. Wigginton, Nix and Thome absolutely do not. zubzub
By the way, genius, Google a dictionary. "commenter" is spelled with an "E" not an "O". zubzub
how does Mayberry get the ABs he needs to recapture the confidence he had last year? Send him down to AAA (utilizing the last option he has) and let him attempt to feast on that pitching. If he doesn't do anything down in LV or comes back up here and still struggles, then maybe he can learn to hit an off-speed pitch somewhere else. ESFjellin

Actually, cOmmenter is spelled with an "o." It gets a little tricky when you start getting into commenters and commentators.
Also, you probably meant right now and not right not, right?
Let's lighten up a little and focus on the game and not grammer. Who would pay money to see a grammar debate unless LA was MC and Scott the referee. Go Phils on the field, in the booth, and especially Phunnel Mouth. Jack Hughes
Hey Jack. It's his freakin sign on name, not a misprint. He should know how to spell his name if he's gonna call people stupid. What are you? His mother? :) zubzub
