Game 130: There is Cloyd, but no Brown

POSTED: Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 3:20 PM

Tyler Cloyd will make his major-league debut Wednesday but he will do so without Domonic Brown behind him.

Brown is out of the Phillies lineup after aggravating a left knee injury Tuesday. Brown insisted after the game he was not injured and only removed because trainers saw him hobbling. Manager Charlie Manuel said Brown indicated he wasn't feeling right.

Whatever the case, Brown is not starting for the third time in four games.

The lineup against Mets rookie Matt Harvey:

1. Jimmy Rollins 6
2. Juan Pierre 7
3. Chase Utley 4
4. Ryan Howard 3
5. John Mayberry Jr. 8
6. Laynce Nix 9
7. Kevin Frandsen 5
8. Erik Kratz 2
9. Tyler Cloyd 1

This is what is so great about getting to audition guys for next year. Brown is making it obvious he's at best a role player in MLB and that he's pretty injury prone. Better to find out now than really count on him for anything next year. Worley shut down is another opportunity to give someone 5-6 starts to show how they handle the pressure of pitching in the majors. Looking forward to the last 32 or so games to try and figure out who, if anyone, will play an important role next year.

Dom B shows "no Hustle" when he's playing. I wouldn't count on him for to much in 2013 or beyond. I would trade him if anybody would take him.Good Luck,Ruben.

Look, outfielders are not hard to come by. Let's say we have a platoon/bench of Mayberry, Nix and maybe Brown. Our infield is Ruiz, Howard, Utley, Rollins and (out of necessity; no good free agents out there) Frandsen. We tweak our 'pen and our rotation stays the same. You know what? You go get two outfielders and see what happens. How about Josh Hamilton in CF with our short left field porch and a Cody Ross in left, whose work ethic is unquestionable? Bang, Hamilton bats third or fourth, Howard behind him, Utley behind him, etc. We are not far from turning this boat around, we really aren't.

What does it take to convince people that Dom Brown is a complete bust?
He's either injury prone , or scared to fail. How many of you think he would ever have tried playing with the injuries Utley has had ? Let's face it, Amaro has a crippled sparrow on his hands, and has given him every opportunity to act and play like a major league player. Puff pieces with excuses have been floated to the fans buying more time to see if they can breathe life into a failure. It isn't working.
The sad part is, the best player they have in the outfield is nearing 40 years of age, and has an arm like a wet dish cloth; Juan Pierre, whom I hope they re sign. Hoping Mayberry and Brown , or Mayberry alone will work is a pipe dream. Fans (?) rushed Ibanez out of town, and haven't had anyone half as good to replace him. Ruben fell in love with the sound baby chic's make. Cheap! cheap! cheap!
He's now parading the best of the minor league system in a major league setting , hoping other GM's will see them in a brighter light. Led by Brown, and Mayberry, there are other "Blue Light Specials" he could get rid of.
Almost every position on the team including first base. Catching is secure so long as Ruiz doesn't demand what he's worth.
Too bad the problems weren't addressed when they came up. We are now two seasons late.
