Phillies shortstop prospect Freddy Galvis was removed from the lineup of his Venezuelan baseball team on Tuesday due to soreness in his right wrist, according to a Venezuelan news report.

The 21-year-old Venezuelan-native began play last week for the the Aguilas de Zulia of the Venezuelan Winter League. In Sept., Galvis was the named the Phillies top-position player prospect.

In four games in Venezuela, Galvis is hitting .273 in 11 at-bats with three walks and just one strikeout. He's batted in the eighth hole for Aguilas, as he batted primarily in the bottom of the order for Triple-A Lehigh Valley after being promoted there in August.

Gerardo Boscan, the sports editor of Mi Diario newspaper in Maracaibo, Venezuela, reported early Wednesday morning via Twitter that Galvis was removed from the Zulia lineup for presenting discomfort in his right wrist. The right wrist is the throwing hand of the smooth fielding shortstop.

If the Phillies are unable to or chose not to sign shortstop Jimmy Rollins, Galvis is one of their best in-house options. Last season, he hit a combined .278 between AA and AAA, including .298 in 33 games in Lehigh Valley.

Also listed on the Aguilas roster with Galvis are seven other Phillies minor leaguers, including second baseman Harold Garcia. Both are also currently on the Phillies 40-man roster. The 24-year-old Garcia suffered a knee injury early last season with Double-A Reading and missed the rest of the year.
