For Myers, it was all about the heel
Andy Martino
Brett Myers moved his left heel a few inches, and ended up on the World Series roster.
The veteran righthander, who pitched one ineffective inning in the division series and was excluded from the National League Championship Series roster, was added to the team once again. He replaced utilityman Miguel Cairo.
Pitching coach Rich Dubee said that the team needed an extra pitcher because of the lack of off-days during the World Series, and that Myers looked much improved while throwing two simulated games and two bullpen sessions during the NLCS.
“His fastball is a lot sharper,” Dubee said. “His breaking ball is better than it was before. His fastball command has improved.”
Myers said that he noticed a mechanical problem while warming up in the bullpen to pitch Game 2 of the division series, but did not have time to correct it.
“My heel was pointing too much toward the plate, so I was flying open when I released the ball,” he said.
Having corrected that issue in his side work during the NLCS, Myers feels ready to pitch, The upper back strain that sidelined him in September has healed, he said.
“It’s definitely better," Myers said.

- Well, you’re right JimG. If the WS comes down to bench players we’re in trouble, mostly becasue the Yankees have a better bench. But let’s not forget that throughout the history of baseball there have been a lot of unsung heroes in the playoffs. Sometimes it comes down to those anonymous players, those players at the end of the bench, to steal the spotlight from the stars; the Jose Vizcaino’s, Luis Sojo’s, Todd Pratt’s of the world, to name a few. Hey, how about Geoff Jenkins last year with that big hit? If it comes down to put Brunlett and his pathetic BA of .171 this season and .199 in the playoffs or fielding percentage on the field in a crucial situation, particularly in Yankee Stadium where Francisco will see a lot of playing time adn Charlie might pinch hit for him, we might as well crown the Yankees right now. Don’t understand this move either. EL Zorro
Yep, Myers is definitely on the roster to hit off of Sabathia again. I can watch that at bat from last year over and over. And how bout the shrug he kept doing with that clueless look on his face during the interview afterward? Priceless!!! WC-Jonesy
Mrs Myers has been attached to that heel for too long. mick314- CC will get pounded again. The plan should have been to pitch Pettite as much as possible. Rivera and Pettite are the only Yankee pitchers who have any chance of being successful in this series...Like Jimmy said, Phillies in Five."
When did Cairo become Babe Ruth? Why are people upset at this? PhillyPhreak- At least the Yankees are going to beat us at something: hottest girlfriends and wifes. http://coedmagazine.com/2009/10/26/yankees-win-pennantwags-of-the-2009-mlb-world-series/#more-109468 EL Zorro
