Five Phillies lead early All-Star voting

POSTED: Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 2:18 PM

Major League Baseball just released its first voting tallies for National League All-Stars and the Phillies are represented well.

Second baseman Chase Utley, shortstop Jimmy Rollins, third baseman Placido Polanco and outfielders Jayson Werth and Shane Victorino all lead their respective positions. Utley, actually, leads all NL players with 687,724 votes.

Catcher Carlos Ruiz and first baseman Ryan Howard are second at their positions behind two Cardinals, Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols.

Voting concludes July 1. By that time, I'd assume Florida's Hanley Ramirez will pass Rollins, who, well, isn't very deserving of an All-Star bid considering he has played in 12 games.

Jimmy shouldnt and probably wont make it. Even though he has great stats, he has only played in 12 games like stated above. Howard's power numbers are down a bit, but he is still deserving of a berth. Plenty of catchers deserve the berth, someone is going to get lerft off and that will be a shame. OFs, Shane really doesnt deserve the spot over Eithier or even Hayward.

With Manuel managing, I'd bet that Howard, Utley, Polanco, Ruiz, Werth and Victorino all make it if they aren't voted in unless they get hurt and miss a lot of time or their numbers drop off significantly between now and then. Halladay should make it too and Hamels has an outside shot if he goes on a tear here. Contreras has been as dominant as anyone out of the bullpen but won't make it due to his low save total.

Is there any way we can start a campaign to sabotage the AL voting and get all scrubs voted in as starters so Selig will once and for all revert the game back to a meaningless exhibition game instead of having homefield for the WS riding on the line?

Thats Great.... an All-Star team that cant score runs unless there's two outs, or the game is won already... its sad, we've lost more games that we should have won.. we got a 25 million dollar man, who lost his home run swing, or hits Grand Slams when we dont need em, we got a Cy Young Award Winner, and we cant score runs to win his games, we owe Halladay 3 games, Hamels 2 games, and Blanton at least 1 game.. because we blew it.... one day we'll look back and regret losing games we should've WON.... with our All-Star team.
