Adam Eaton hears it from the fans after being yanked in the fourth inning.

Adam Eaton has pitched terribly the last two times he has stepped onto the mound, and that is a growing concern for the Phillies.

He allowed 10 hits and eight runs (six earned runs) in just 2 2/3 innings July 7 in a 10-9 loss to the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park. He allowed seven hits and eight runs in just 3 2/3 innings yesterday in a 10-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. He's 0-2 with a 19.89 ERA in those starts. Opponents have hit .459 against him, which has people wondering if Eaton is reverting to the 2007 struggles that kept him off the postseason roster.

"I don't know what we'll do until we talk about it during the break," Charlie Manuel said.

Manuel added that if there's "any way to get someone going, I wouldn't rule it out."

Eaton's struggles only reinforces the idea that the Phillies must bolster their starting rotation before the July 31 trade deadline. Of course, they're still hoping Brett Myers can boost the rotation. He proclaimed himself return to return to the big leagues, although he could make another start in the minors after the break and return to the rotation in the July 22-24 series against the Mets.

Chase Utley already is the greatest second baseman in Phillies history.

This is Yankee Stadium's last year, so we take a look back at the 1950 World Series between the Phillies and Yankees.

While the Mets continue to climb (and can be in 1st at the break if we lose and they win), Charlie continues to run Eaton out there. This guy is a P.G. mistake in the Barajas, Helms mold. Charlie's loyalty is nice, but Eaton is killing us. He (Eaton) doesn't beleive that the bullpen or the minors are the answer, he has "discovered" a mechanical flaw? Puhleess! Myers is still a mental mess, "I'm getting away with fastballs up in the zone and they are popping them up.." Yo Brett, major leagus hitters will hit them out. Give me Carasco and Happ over these guys anyday. Can't be any worse can they?

Why hasn't Dubee been able to help Eaton look like a major league pitcher?

Jimmymack, if you actually made it through all 10 games of this homestand, then you are an "Ironman" worthy of Cal Ripken. Brutal. And there's no sign of the hitting coming back to life any time soon. I also think 1.5 years of the Eaton experiment is more than enough time. Like most of us, I'd rather see a young guy fail a bit while getting some experience over having to suffer through overpaid/underachieving/delusional veterans. PS: Isn't it interesting, Truth, that once I publically declare I'll be mum on RH for the next month, the Big Man starts to heat up? Coincidence? Hmmm....

After last season, is anyone shocked with Eaton's results? Seattle had the good sense to cut their losses with Sexson, releasing him with 6MM left to pay. Clearly they understand the concept of a "sunk cost". Not so the Phillies. At this point, for bad or worse, I expect Eaton to start games for the Phillies until his last paycheck is cashed. I'd rather see So Taguchi pitch -- come on Phillies, it wouldn't cost another dollar. Sigh.

The Phils had the best shot they might get all day against Webb in the first. Of course, they blew it!! Sorry folks, but this teams sucks right now, and I dont see things changing!

The team can't hit in the clutch. What is their RISP average? I love Utley, however o-3 today in the clutch. He is hitting less than 250. MVP talk is a joke. The pitching is not only problem!

Utley is hitting less than 230 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs. He is hitting less than Ruiz. Why doesn't anyone see this issue?

Burnett is shutting out the Yankees. Yet, he doesn't want to play in Philly. Baseball has changed. I thought winning a World Series was the goal. Burnett and many others play for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

Not only has Eaton pitched terribly, the columns from "Columnist" Jim Salisbury have also been terrible lately. No insights, nothing fresh, nothing new. Just regurgitated stuff that we see online at all the major sports sites. At least Todd Zo has something to offer. Midseason awards Todd Zo A- Kate Fagan B Jim Salsibury C-

Step, step, step here comes the Mets, Filly fans. And I have to laugh when I see all you cry babies complain that David Wright got the last AllStar spot over Ryan "Strike Three" Howard and Pat "The Outfield Butcher" Burrell. TYhe truth ids david is a much better all around player and you know it. He can help his team win in more ways than either Ryan the K or Butcher Burrell. So stop your crying, Filly fans!

Yes John, I did make it to all 10 games, seemed like a good idea in March when we booked the tickets, not sure I'll try it again. Only left one game early (yesterday). Wasn't a great homestand, but Pat's dinger today made me feel better. Now I gotta do the 101 things the bride will want done as payback...LOL. Got into an interesting discussion with a guy in HOF club...he is a fan who backs up the strikeouts don't count theory, which Zo endorses and Conlin pontificates about. When I asked why then is it a big stat for pitchers and not batter's, he mumbled, stumbled and had no coherent answer. I am open for any sane discussions on that argument. Anyone with any thoughts?

shoeshineboy..."notes" columns appear in almost every cities papers. It's not intended to be Pulitzer Prize material, the vast majority of readres don't go online and get that stuff. IMHO, Jim Salisbury is one of the better baseball columnists around. Like his feature on Yankee Stadium today or was that also regurgitated stuff? Again, my opinion, but between Zo, Murphy, Hagen and Salisbury, Philly is pretty strong on baseball coverage.

Enough with Eaton already. The Phils should have released him last year, now they must do it. He should not be on the roster to begin the second half. Happ should be given the rotation spot. Myers gets one more shot with a short leash. If he fails in 2-3 starts, trade him and bring up Carasco. Blakely, Outman, and Savery are waiting in the wings. The Phils MUST give these valuable starts to young pitchers and let them take their lumps........better than Eaton and Myers continuing to get hammered with no upside. Next year, only Hamels and Kendrick can be penciled in as starters. Moyer cannot realistically be counted on to continue as he has....he may not make it the second half of 2008. The Phils need 2 new starters for next year as a minumum. They have 5 good prospects to test. Time for the testing to begin. Signing someone like Burnett or Bedard is not the answer...they are not true stars and not worth the money....they will just continue in the Garcia/Eaton legacy.

Bring Haab back and get Fuentes.........unfortunately Myers and Eaton should be history. They are automatic losses, most of the time when they pitch.

Aside from his lack of pitching ability, Eaton appears to have no heart, either. If there ever was a chance for the Phillies to show they are serious about winning, this is it. Release Eaton. Plug the hole in the rotation with guys from the minors. Audition them and hope lightning strikes, even a little spark. They cannot be worse. In his last 3 starts the opposition is hitting .393 against him with an OPS of 1.013. He makes the league into Chipper Jones.

It would be great if the Phils could put both Myers (in the Gordon spot) and Eaton into the bullpen and bring up Carasco and Happ to fill in. I thought Happ showed some good stuff in his brief appearances. Sorry to have missed today's win....I was coincidentally at the Reading Phils game, but didn't get to see the marquee players since they were at the Future's All-Star game. They also won! Whata great place to see a game.

The Phils showed nice resilience (sorry for the big word, Wizard; it means toughness) today. For all those doubters, calm down. When it counted most today, the big boys came through: Utley single, Howard single, Burrell homer. Regardless of what the Mutts do tonight, the right team will be in 1st place at the break.

Truth
I really like the idea of the team going after Fuentes--If they can hold on until Gordon comes back from his mandatory midseason rest and add to the strength of the 'pen maybe they can pull Myers/Eaton/Happ/Carassco after a pathetic first and pitch by commitee until the 6th.....I think Myers and Eaton would pitch better if you told them just pitch 3-4 innings with all you got. This team has to think out of the box here and take it game by game.....

This team has to release Eaton asap......it's a sound move that'll decrease a lot of stress in the locker room and remove a lot of stress from the offense as he continually puts them in the hole the 1st inning of every game.....he's not fit for the bullpen either so don't even go there.....Joe in Haddonfield was dead on, no heart to match his no talent......

I'll agree with "Eaton sucks," but how can you gripe about the team hitting "when it doesn't matter" on a day when Rollins, Utley, Howard, and Burrell each got key hits in clutch situations? The Phils just came up with a big win on a day when they faced Webb and Hamels didn't have his best stuff.

Hey look, a Mets cockroach came out from under their rock. I guess it was dark under that rock the first three months of the season. You Mets fans are a joke. I can't wait until you crawl back under that rock when the Mets lose 3 of 4 from Cincy right after the break.
