Adam Eaton hears it from the fans after being yanked in the fourth inning.

Adam Eaton has pitched terribly the last two times he has stepped onto the mound, and that is a growing concern for the Phillies.

He allowed 10 hits and eight runs (six earned runs) in just 2 2/3 innings July 7 in a 10-9 loss to the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park. He allowed seven hits and eight runs in just 3 2/3 innings yesterday in a 10-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. He's 0-2 with a 19.89 ERA in those starts. Opponents have hit .459 against him, which has people wondering if Eaton is reverting to the 2007 struggles that kept him off the postseason roster.

"I don't know what we'll do until we talk about it during the break," Charlie Manuel said.

Manuel added that if there's "any way to get someone going, I wouldn't rule it out."

Eaton's struggles only reinforces the idea that the Phillies must bolster their starting rotation before the July 31 trade deadline. Of course, they're still hoping Brett Myers can boost the rotation. He proclaimed himself return to return to the big leagues, although he could make another start in the minors after the break and return to the rotation in the July 22-24 series against the Mets.

Chase Utley already is the greatest second baseman in Phillies history.

In the Phillies Notebook, the Phillies are talking with the Colorado Rockies about lefthander Brian Fuentes.

In The Inquirer's Sunday baseball column, Jim Salisbury hands out his midseason awards. Also check out Extra Bases.

This is Yankee Stadium's last year, so we take a look back at the 1950 World Series between the Phillies and Yankees.

While the Mets continue to climb (and can be in 1st at the break if we lose and they win), Charlie continues to run Eaton out there. This guy is a P.G. mistake in the Barajas, Helms mold. Charlie's loyalty is nice, but Eaton is killing us. He (Eaton) doesn't beleive that the bullpen or the minors are the answer, he has "discovered" a mechanical flaw? Puhleess! Myers is still a mental mess, "I'm getting away with fastballs up in the zone and they are popping them up.." Yo Brett, major leagus hitters will hit them out. Give me Carasco and Happ over these guys anyday. Can't be any worse can they?

Why hasn't Dubee been able to help Eaton look like a major league pitcher?

Jimmymack, if you actually made it through all 10 games of this homestand, then you are an "Ironman" worthy of Cal Ripken. Brutal. And there's no sign of the hitting coming back to life any time soon. I also think 1.5 years of the Eaton experiment is more than enough time. Like most of us, I'd rather see a young guy fail a bit while getting some experience over having to suffer through overpaid/underachieving/delusional veterans. PS: Isn't it interesting, Truth, that once I publically declare I'll be mum on RH for the next month, the Big Man starts to heat up? Coincidence? Hmmm....

After last season, is anyone shocked with Eaton's results? Seattle had the good sense to cut their losses with Sexson, releasing him with 6MM left to pay. Clearly they understand the concept of a "sunk cost". Not so the Phillies. At this point, for bad or worse, I expect Eaton to start games for the Phillies until his last paycheck is cashed. I'd rather see So Taguchi pitch -- come on Phillies, it wouldn't cost another dollar. Sigh.

The team can't hit in the clutch. What is their RISP average? I love Utley, however o-3 today in the clutch. He is hitting less than 250. MVP talk is a joke. The pitching is not only problem!

Utley is hitting less than 230 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs. He is hitting less than Ruiz. Why doesn't anyone see this issue?

Burnett is shutting out the Yankees. Yet, he doesn't want to play in Philly. Baseball has changed. I thought winning a World Series was the goal. Burnett and many others play for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

Not only has Eaton pitched terribly, the columns from "Columnist" Jim Salisbury have also been terrible lately. No insights, nothing fresh, nothing new. Just regurgitated stuff that we see online at all the major sports sites. At least Todd Zo has something to offer. Midseason awards Todd Zo A- Kate Fagan B Jim Salsibury C-

Step, step, step here comes the Mets, Filly fans. And I have to laugh when I see all you cry babies complain that David Wright got the last AllStar spot over Ryan "Strike Three" Howard and Pat "The Outfield Butcher" Burrell. TYhe truth ids david is a much better all around player and you know it. He can help his team win in more ways than either Ryan the K or Butcher Burrell. So stop your crying, Filly fans!

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Follow him on Twitter here.

Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
