Dubee: Halladay will pitch Tuesday

POSTED: Saturday, July 14, 2012, 7:50 PM

DENVER -- Roy Halladay cleared the final hurdle Saturday.

After throwing 28 pitches in the bullpen at Coors Field, the two-time Cy Young Award winner said he “felt fine” and pitching coach Rich Dubee indicated he’d be ready to pitch Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“As of right now, he will pitch Tuesday unless I’m told he can’t,” Dubee said.

The pitching coach also said Halladay will be on a pitch count, but declined to reveal what the count will be. Halladay has not pitched in a big-league game since May 27 in St. Louis when he revealed he had soreness in the back of his right shoulder.

The Phillies have gone a major-league worst 12-27 during Halladay's time on the disabled list and lost 10 games to the Washington Nationals in the standings to fall 15 games out of first place.

Halladay made a minor-league rehab appearance Monday for single-A Clearwater and pitched three innings.

“All right, fine,” is how Dubee described that outing. “There is rustiness and inconsistency there, but arm wise and working wise, he’s feeling a lot better than he has in a long time.”

Seems like Halladay is being rushed for no reason. You saw Rockies bring in lefty to face Howard with first and third. You will see a lot of that with Chase and Howard batting 3-4. Charley should drop Ryan down to 5th right now just to counter that. Manuel is a very very poor manager, its not the Howard of a few years ago. A lefty changes Howard from a 270 hitter to a 220 hitter. Also Ryan is really in spring training right now.

These guys do not care and clearly that shows in how they play the game. With that being said, why do you care?

DonW....a lefty changes Howard to a .190 hitter....or worse....meanwhile Big Papi keeps ripping HRs off of lefties,......can he be any worse at 1st base?

The pitch count will be 75....the Dodger hitters will know this...they will take pitches and foul off others. By the 4th inning Doc will be gone. IMHO.

If the Phillies set their sights on the second wild card, it is still possible even though I am counting on sending my TV set out for maintenance during the playoffs! One lost season in six still isn't bad. The issue now is to play like winners and get back in the habit of winning. Even the bullpen is salvageable. The kids need to feel that every pitch is critical and stop making so many dumb ones. There are a couple of good arms in the mix. Bastardo can still be a good one and that sidearmer can be lights out if he can find the plate. Sanchez needs to be sent back to wherever he came from. There is no excuse for veterans to pitch like that! Valdez already broke down. Shwimmer throws lollipops much of the time. Will Joe Savery ever pitch in a game they win? Maybe he needs to end the quest. I love his stick-to-it-iveness but his pitching leaves a lot to be desired!
