Donald sent down

POSTED: Monday, March 23, 2009, 5:03 PM

After batting .296 and impressing Charlie Manuel with his hustle and dedication, INF Jason Donald was reassigned to minor league camp after starting at shortstop and going 0 for 3 today.  LHP Jake Woods and RHP Dave Borkowsi were also reassigned.

2010 will be his year, sounds like a very good player in the making!

Another aging prospect in the Phils farm system. It's sad because there is a place for him right now.

If they keep Miguel Cairo and Bruntlett and Coste and Giles then there is simply no room for him. But at least I can see him at AAA this year.

We haven't heard the last of Jason Donald. Bright future. Should be back up soon.

I heard something on the radio this morning about possibly trading lou marson for clay buckholz from the red sox, i don't know if there is any validity to this, if any one knows i'd like to know. If we can't use Donald why not trade him while his value is high?

Unless Feliz turns around his offense in a big hurry, I want to see Donald at third base. But so long as Feliz is the starter I agree sending Donald to the minors is the least bad option. He should be playing every day, he'll get his work in in AAA. And as soon as an infielder hits the IR he'll get his chance to shine.

He's 24. Let him get used to playing third in AAA and be ready if Feliz hurts the back again. I bet he'll be up this year.

Why not wait until he is 26 like they did with Ryan Howard - waste half his career in the minor leagues...

Is Feliz a UFA after this season? If so, Donald gets the job in 2010. Sending him to AAA for a tune-up season is a near perfect situation. But no, he should be next to untouchable for any later trade.

JD will be back - I'd have him work @ 3B. He can play everyday @ AAA.

if Donald shows he can consistently play the 3B position, then he starts there next year for the Phils.....meanwhile, they will see if he can do so this year at AAA

Sooooo glad we didn't trade Donald last year at the trading deadline. He's going to be a player in this league. Definitely looks like he could have a future at 3B for the Phils. How genius do the Phils look for keeping Donald, Carrasco and Marson last year at the trading deadline and still winning a World Series?

What a farm system! Depth that we may need as inevitable injuries occur.
