Ruf Ties Howard Reading HR Mark

READING -- Darin Ruf has tied the single-season Reading Phillies club record with his 37th home run in tonight’s 12-8 win at First Energy Stadium against the Binghamton Mets.

His home run tied Ryan Howard’s Reading team record that was set in 2004.

"He is a special player and it’s great to be tied with him right now," Ruf said.

The two-run home run came in the bottom of the sixth inning, tying the score at 8-8. Ruf has played mainly first base this season but was in left field tonight. He then moved to first base in the ninth inning.

He has recently been playing more left field, a move to make him more marketable.

It was Ruf’s 19th home run in 28 August games. The record-tying home run was estimated to be more than 400 feet to left field.

"It’s been a great month and something I will remember forever," Ruf said.

Ruf struck out in his final at-bat in the eighth inning. He finished 1 for 4 with the two-run home run.

The 26-year-old Ruf is now hitting .317 and has 98 RBIs.
