The Phillies will replace Antonio Bastardo with another lefty, Cesar Jimenez. The 28-year-old Venezuelan became the 21st different player promoted from triple-A Lehigh Valley when his contract was purchased Tuesday afternoon.

Jimenez had a 3.12 ERA at triple A. He was signed as a minor-league free agent last winter. Lefthanders were hitting him better than righties in the minors.

He last appeared in the majors Sept. 27, 2011 with Seattle. In 43 career games, all with the Mariners, Jimenez has a 5.40 ERA. He served as Lehigh Valley's closer during the last week of games.

When Jimenez pitches, he will be the 46th different Phillies player in 2013. The team used 49 players in 2012 and 42 in 2011. The 21 IronPigs promoted to the majors in 2013 is the highest total ever.
