Castillo late; won't play next two days
Matt Gelb, Inquirer Staff Writer
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- And so the tryout is down to seven games.
Newly acquired second baseman Luis Castillo has not yet arrived to Phillies camp and will not play today as expected. He is not in Wednesday's scheduled lineup either.
Uh-oh.
Charlie Manuel had Castillo in his original lineup posted this morning, batting second and playing second. Castillo has a locker and a uniform number -- 3 -- but there is no sign of him.
Phillies officials said he was driving from Port St. Lucie, Fla., to Clearwater on Monday night. But he has yet to appear at the complex and still must take a physical to be cleared to play or even take batting practice.
ESPN Deportes reported Castillo was not in Clearwater today because "confusion with hotel reservation affected the plan."
Read today's story in The Inquirer about Castillo's signing.

Way to impress your new bosses Dope! Just cut him now... Irishup
What a waste of space. How long can that drive be? LOSER sv1968
I don't want this blowhard sniffing a Phillies uniform. Cut 'em loose! WerthsOtherWife
What a joke! I've been against this signing since the Mets cut him and the rumors of coming to the Phillies started. PortCity
whaddya want from an ex-met??? any questions why they stink??? they are probably the worst franchise in mlb and it doesn't look like it'll get better anytime soon...the phils should just say oops,my bad,and send this joker packing... jabac
Its World Series or bust. Go get Michael Young. Put him in the 3 or 5 hole. He'll hit .300, 25HR, 90 RBI,100 R and hes the consumate professional and great clubhouse guy.Phillies fans will ove him. No more Met castoffs please. argonne
As soon as this lazy slob shows up, tell him to turn around and go home. We don't need this attitude infecting the clubhouse. jaxforprez
Amazing! Might be an all time record. 24 hours to earn the fans wrath. Dont let him in the door. Guess the Mets fans were right for once eisenser
I was for this signing, however, FIRST IMPRESSIONS,,, Philly Dave
*heh* I just got done posting a comment supporting the decision to sign him for a no-cost look-see. One thing I'll say for Luis, though; he didn't waste our time in helping us decide. At least we still have a little time to try someone else. Maybe someone who WANTS to play for us. PeteInPhilly
Umm....I'd cut ties NOW. This is a 35 year old "veteran" whose career is on life line, yet he got confused with hotel reservations? Are you kidding me? Cholly/RAJ, not worth the look. Valdez/Barfield/Young are very capable, younger, and obviously, know where the hotels/ball park are. Cancer is cancer, even if you change the uniform....cut losses NOW! drhoffman
