Cameron Rupp spent his first week in the majors on the bench. The Texan's debut will come Tuesday night when he bats eighth and catches Tyler Cloyd in a series opener vs. San Diego.

Rupp has not batted nor played an inning since his recall Sept. 3. He has bided time by catching some bullpen sessions and being a wallflower in the clubhouse. The 24-year-old started 2013 at double-A Reading.

Interim manager Ryne Sandberg said he was looking for the right spot to use Rupp. With Cloyd pitching, it offers a chance for familiarity between two players who spent much of the season at triple-A Lehigh Valley.
