Burrell Hurt?

POSTED: Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 5:56 PM

Pat Burrell felt some discomfort in his lower back on a swing during batting practice today at Citizens Bank Park. He immediately left the batting  cage and walked into the clubhouse.

He will be evaluated tomorrow.

No other information is availabile.

I don't have a problem for him to miss tomorrows game, because Gallardo is a righty and we can put an extra lefthanded bat in the line-up. But, I hope is nothing serious and he can come back against Sabathia on Thursday. We will need him big time.

This isn't good. Not the worst thing that could happen but obviously not having him in the lineup hurts us. Love the quickness Zo, you beat ESPN by 20 minutes.

Pat....ICE, HEAT, ADVIL! ICE, HEAT, ADVIL! Can Pat even just sit out a game? Did I misread Zo's little blurb on the postseason rules? I thought it said that "if a player is injured, he has to sit out that series AND the next series". But I guess, if they leave Pat on the roster, all that's covered. Maybe I just answered my own question.

If any of the big three (Rollins, Howard, Utley) had gotten hurt, now that would be a problem. Burrell? I'm sorry, I don't see his absence as something to be concerned about. Especially against a hard-throwing righty in Game 1. Quite frankly, I was sorry Charlie showed him so much respect down the stretch by playing him everyday.

PhightinPhil: Sufre, we all were a little surprised that Charlie didn't sit Pat down in the last few weeks, but "sorry"? Don't think so. PB came through with a few clutch hits that helped win some key games down the stretch. Even in a slump, opposing pitchers know that Burrell can hurt them. As someone else said, this is not he worst thing that could happen, but it is a loss if he's out of the lineup.

Maybe Pat should contact Hamel's chiropractor (there was a write-up today about Hamels holistic approach to his training) or talk to "Dr. Norma"...your advice sounds right on!

Pat will be sorely missed in our line-up if he can't go. Lower back and ankle injuries are the only injuries you simply can't play thru. Look at Furcal for LAD. The silver lining is they have to bring Golson along for the ride now. Cholly would have dissapointed me if he did not bring him along. Imagine bottom the 9th in gm 5 and Burrell singles with out and they have to bring in Jenkins or someone to run for him b/c taguci already batted. It would have been a catastrophe'. Either way believe me bringing Golson is the best insurance the Phils can buy...Myers will not be taken out until he gives up a few runs (his psyche and payroll will not allow anything else) anyway and the pressure will be on the hitters not the incoming pitcher.

I love Pat, but El Zorro is right. Get him well for Game 2, throw Jenkins back in right, move Werth to left. Dobbs at third? My Game 1 lineup: Rollins-Utley-Werth-Howard-Victorino-Dobbs-Jenkins-Ruiz-Hamels. Hopefully Burrell could pinch-hit if needed.

Yeah, first game facing a righty isnt a big deal, but game 2 could be!

If we get to the 9th and Taguchi has already batted we have bigger problems. Go find a good book.

They better get out of the first round this year!!!! I dont think Golson is on the playoff roster, at least not this round.
