Brown still here; batting second
Matt Gelb, Inquirer Staff Writer
Yes, everyone's least favorite baseball player ever is still here. And not only is Domonic Brown here, he is batting second for the Phillies as they open a three-game series against Pittsburgh.
Brown is the subject of rampant trade rumors from numerous media outlets, some of which may be true, and some of which may not be. It's important to remember this time of year that a well-planted smoke screen can be a team's best friend.
So for now, Brown is batting second for the fifth time in his career. He did it four times earlier this season. In 19 July games, Brown is hitting .303 with a .789 OPS.
This also could be the last hurrah for Wilson Valdez, who starts for the first time in two weeks. He could find himself out of a major-league job this weekend when Placido Polanco is activated from the disabled list.
It's Roy Halladay vs. Mini Roy Halladay (Charlie Morton).
1. Jimmy Rollins 6
2. Domonic Brown 9
3. Chase Utley 4
4. Ryan Howard 3
5. Shane Victorino 8
6. Raul Ibanez 7
7. Carlos Ruiz 2
8. Wilson Valdez 5
9. Roy Halladay 1

every time brown bats I am worried his trade value goes down lol MFPhils
Anyone who thinks B.J. Upton or Melky Cabrera is going to be the answer for the Phillies is nuts. Pence may not be the next coming of Barry Bonds, but he's a lot better than anything we've got in Right Field, including Dom Brown. SteveS11
so Dave Clemens just because I think Brown should be traded for Pence, does that mean I dislike him?
No I want Brown traded for Pence because I think Brown will never be a great player or will take at least another 3 yrs to even get to be an average player and this team is built to win now. I dont want to be in the NLCS or WS with Brown as my RF or with Victorino hitting number 5. Bob65S- Just out of curiousity, what is this RH bat going to do for the rest of the lineup as far as getting them to hit against the Giants pitchers? Is this RH hitter going to score all the runs for the team and win the WS? How do you do you know that this team wont be able to compete in future with our baby aces?

I know its a small sample size, but Brown averages the most pitches seen per AB on the team robm0202
Is it me or is Matt Gelb really turning into a total tool the more and more he writes. It seems to me this isn't the first time he's had a childish comment to make towards the fans. It's trade deadline time and players will be talked about as far as their worth to the team or their future development. Just because some people dont think Brown is all that doesn't mean that they have a "dislike" for him. Gelb, your so far behind Dave Murphy in skill and professionalism, it's a joke. watch and read Dave more to see how a young guy can still do his job without resorting to cheap shots and silly comments based on nothing but your own view of being morally and intellectually superior to the fanbase that you write for. It appears, through tweets galore, that the Phillies are planning to trade Domonic Brown, Jarred Cosart and Jonathan Singleton in exchange for Hunter Pence. The deal is not finalized yet, and there might be another player or two involved, but it certainly smells like it could be done by dinnertime. The holdups, apparently, are that the Astros don't really want Brown, so they're trying to find another team that will take him, per Jayson Stark. That team could be the Yankees or the Braves. And Houston GM Ed Wade is also trying to deal Brett Myers, among other players, which is complicating matters according to Ken Rosenthal. Meanwhile, Buster Olney speculates on what Pence will make in arbitration next year and in 2013. EL Zorro- Good grief! You MUST be joking here! Any one of them is way to much for the much over-rated Hunter Pence.

Ed Wade is betting on the Phils putting up another 1 spot tonight to drive Pence's value up even higher. Joe Lis lives
Matt, I hope that was tongue-in-cheek about Brown being anyone's most disliked player. I know you're in favor of keeping Brown and so am I but c'mon. And nice to see that with Mike Martinez batting .220 and throwing the ball away in a critical situation last night he's getting a seat today. If Wilson's going, it would be just like Charlie to get him a little showcase time. Wilson! PhillySubsMac
pence is overrated because he is a so-called white man...that is the real reason, hope amaro does not fall for it fans here many of them are bigoted and stupid to the core. only 9
Typical Philly fashion. Short term thinking! THey do it with every prospect no matter what sport. This city is what have you done for me lately.
There is the Ryan Howard sucks bandwagon.
There was the McNabb haters.
The one guy the city should have pulled the plug on (AI), got 100 chances and kept f-in up.
Come one people. Hunter Pence had a good rookie year and this year he was an All-Star...the years in between?
Everyone SLOW DOWN! Hunter Pence will not bring us a World Series this year. And losing Dom Brown whose start is similar to that of one Chase Utley's...
And worst player ever? That is just stupid!
RELAX.
