Brown scratched with stiff neck

POSTED: Thursday, March 15, 2012, 2:17 PM

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Domonic Brown was a late scratch with a stiff neck in the Phillies' split squad game at Port Charlotte, Fla., against Tampa Bay.

Brown already missed five games this spring with a sprained right thumb. He was scheduled to be the designated hitter for a second straight day because Charlie Manuel said he wants to see different players in left field.

The split squad offered the Phillies a look at both Scott Podsednik and Juan Pierre, who are battling for the fifth outfielder spot. Each started in left Thursday.

Brown is 6 for 20 (.300) with three extra-base hits and no strikeouts this spring. His defensive troubles have him ticketed to triple-A Lehigh Valley to begin the season.

You mean they STILL haven't diagnosed Brown's lack of heart?? His career so far sure lays the same foundation any 5-tool phenom's would, huh?

Wow! Can't believe how much hate out there for Brown. Since they've foolishly thrown their lot in with Howard, Rollins, Utley and a crew of retreads, Brown is about their only hope to get things on course this decade. To me, he looks pretty good and should have played a full season in the bigs last year. You'd think everyone would be rooting for him.

Lets look at the careers of Carlos Gonzalez, Jay Bruce, and Justin Upton. All three were top prospects, called up young, had 2 subpar years with limited playing time, then finally figured things out and now they are all-stars. I don't get why Phillies fans think this kid was going to step on the field and immediately be a MVP caliber player. Prospects take patience. Lets not be the Oakland A's and trade away a future Carlos Gonzalez. I don't get how the same people can sit here and complain about how old and injury prone are lineup is then at the same time beg to trade away a 23 yr old outfielder who has potential. If we were going to trade him the time to do that was when he was the #4 overall prospect, selling low would be incredibly stupid.

I don't think a lot of modern Phillies fans know who Gonzales, Upton, or Bruce are. If Hamels, Halladay, or Lee have a 3.30 ERA- better than any of their career averages- the same people would be blasting them.

Never like to question a player over injuries, but Brown seems to be an injury waiting to happen and a born DH in the American League. When you are trying to make a team, perhaps need to tough it out.

Leader: No one is rooting AGAINS Dom, but you have to be blind to not realize that his ultimate value to the Phillies is as trade bait. I for one would like to see him traded to an AL team for a legitimate player who can help the Phils. Then he can light it up, and more power to him. However, good luck!

Leader: no one is really rooting against Dumbo, but one neds to be blind not to recognize that his ultimate value to the Phillies is as trade bait! I hope he goes to the AL for a class player and lights it up there. Good luck!

Pack Leader: Only a dummy would chastise people for bursting your bubble. Do you think real fans want to put up with less than an all out effort to play the game the way it was meant to be played ?
Where do you get the thought that Brown is a key piece to the Phillies future ?
Only a close relative to Brown would post a ridiculous piece like you have. I believe Brown has a problem above his shoulders, but it isn't his neck. Maybe you should be checked too !

They'll trade him for an infielder and he'll turn into Gavin Floyd.

I can't believe that all of you Dom Brown haters have the nerve to call yourself Phillies fans. You want him to fail for what reason? It will be good for the team that you claim to support? It makes ZERO sense to me. Show a little support for one of the key pieces of the Phils future, or go "root" for another team, because you classless morons make ALL of us look bad.

whatever they use to fix Brown's "stiff neck" should be appl;ied to his glove...maybe he would then be able to close the darned thing before the ball pops out!

Dom's sore neck was from watching a ball sail over his head as he was trying to catch it.

Amaro is criminally overrated. This epic Brown miss is only one example.

The "epic" Brown miss? What are you talking about? Ya he really missed with that 20TH ROUND DRAFT PICK...especially when Pat Gillick was the GM in 2006. Oh and he is in the HOF now...surprised they let him in after this "epic" miss. Please hop off the Phillies bandwagon we would be better off without uninformed naysayers like yourself.
