Hello from another workout day, where Charlie Manuel announced minutes ago that Joe Blanton will start Game 4 for the Phils.  He said that since Cliff Lee had never pitched on short rest, he did nto feel comfortable asking him to do so during the World Series.

More to come, gotta head down the field.

Well, that puts the weight of the series squarely on the shoulders of Hamels and Blanton at this point. And I guess that means Pedro for Game 6 and Hamels for Game 7. I don't know, I have a hard time not getting Lee 3 starts if it goes 7 games. Also, I wonder if Charlie taps Happ for a start in Game 6 if he hasn't been used yet. Seems like he'd stick with Pedro based on his solid start last night. Let's go Phillies OFFENSE!!!

Charlie would never say so, but Happ is basically an insurance policy for Hamels and Blanton. I think we see a short leash for both, with Happ in the wings. That said, I expect (hope?) Hamels to return to form with 7 strong innings tomorrow. Nothing spectacular, but very solid, and enough for the Phils to take a lead into the late innings.

Not a big fan of this move. Cliff should start. If he isn't sharp, then go to Blanton or Happ for the rest of the game. We picked him up just for this...don't waste another shot. If the Yanks can throw that fat our of shape guy out there 3 times, why can't we believe in Cliff? BIG MISTAKE.

Let's see. Hamels wins. Blanton wins. Lee is the hammer in 5.

I'm fine with Blanton on a short leash...maybe Blanton goes through the lineup twice and makes it through the 4th or 5th, then bring in Happ, Durbin, Park, Myers/Madsen/Lidge (hopefully).

What about Happ? His best pitcher all season not named Lee is rotting away. I have to trust Charlie, but this looks like a bad move. It's like last year when Madden didn't use Price in Game 5 until it was too late. Only time will tell.

We very well could be down 3-1 before Lee pitches agian. A.Pettite is a very good big game lefty pitcher and howard is 1-9 agianst him. facing C.Hamles who has been bad and has gievn up alot of home runs I would take Pettite over Hamles any day of the week. Then if they bring back Sabathia which i think they will he will face Blanton and Blanton gives up runs and Sabathia doesnt the only one to hit him was Utley. Blanton usually goes deep in games but he also gives up 3-4 runs in the process. I really hope they dont pitch Sabathia game 4 so Blanton will face Godan then we should have a easy win if not i see us being down 3-1. Our Offense really needs to step it up for us big time. trust me Hamles and Blanton are going to give up runs. If we are facing Pettite and Sabathia we really need our Offense to score alot of runs. We had that game last night the crowd and the yankees were totally out of the game its a shame we let that one get away.

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
