bski by a nose
I am in the aiport en route to Miami, so I have no news for you regarding Cole Hamels or the Phils weak effort today. Jim Salisbury does, however, and he's already posted some of it on our website. But I can tell you that this week's competition for Wise Comment of the Week was tight. The discussion regarding my suggestion that Manuel should have named names in his Monday quasi-rant was particularly thoughtful, though no one seemed to agree with me (I can take it). But bski, always a source of mature and rational thoughts, offered a nice take. Congrats, bski, your random letters will identify you in the Sunday paper. Also, props to the group for self-policing some racist commentary on the same subject. You have the power to keep this thing respectable, and I applaud you for exercising it. Posted by bski 02:05 PM, 04/21/2009 This is the next step in the progression for Manuel. He has been talking about how the team needs to forget about last season success and start focusing on what they need to do to be successful this season for a little while now. It seems like each successive statement he makes on the subject is more stern and foreboding. This one almost comes across as a parental thing. You know, like when you were a kid and you were horsing around/fighting/making a racket with a brother/sister/friend and one of your parents would yell, "Don't make me come up there!", or "If you guys can't work it out, I'll work it out for you!", that type of thing. Well, it sounds to me like the parental warning has been issued and if the situation doesn't correct itself very soon, then Charlie will address it (i.e. the individual player or players) directly, just like he has in the past.

Congrats bski on being the "quote of the week". I liked your analogy also when I read it. Dykstra is throwing his whole family under the bus. Not pretty. Hope our Fightin's get it together today. Yesterday's loss was a bit nasty. KarenA
Blog host recognizer a regular commenter for insightful thoughts...I love it! Congrats, bski...and kudos to Andy for handling out some props most people wouldn't bother with. It is always nice to know the writer isn't just posting bits, but is actually following the conversation that starts from it. RollinsWasRight
Want to offer my heartfelt gratitude to the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates for saving the Phillies from torpedoing their own season way early by sleep-walking through yet another series against an inferior opponent. I was at the game yesterday, and by the 7th inning, I was rooting for Dave Bush to throw the no-hitter. But alas, he didn't come through, and I left the ballpark doubly disappointed. Feeble effort by the Phils the last two games. RollinsWasRight
Just a question: when do reasons (last year's success, HK, the weather) become excuses? Hope someone takes down all the WS pics in the locker room and office, so when they get back home they can get their heads back into this year. RWR - thanks for pointing out Andy's props to the group. Andy, thanks for giving us credit. oldecityslicker
Great comments by all today. My only question is for Rollins: just what is a 'kudo'? Is it similar to a 'henway'? mick314
mick - according to wikipedia: Kudos (from teh Greek "kydos", "that which is heard") means "fame" and "renown" resulting from an act or achievement. Extending "kudos" to another individual is often done as a praising remark. Funny...all this time I thought it was just a chewy granola snack bar made by the Quaker Oats company. :) RollinsWasRight
Mick.....What's a henway? About 10 lbs. or so? bski
bski, the "oracle", thanks. And yes, Rollins, they usually go about 10lbs, unless they are owned by BarryBonds, in which case....you know. mick314
I always thought it was 3lbs or so. 10lbs might be a pretty big hen. This is now known as the bski zone.. Gary Varsho
