Phillippe Aumont sticks as Phillies option Michael Schwimer
Matt Gelb, Inquirer Staff Writer
In somewhat of a surprise move, it was Michael Schwimer who temporarily lost his job Thursday in the latest Phillies bullpen shuffle.
Schwimer was optioned to triple-A Lehigh Valley to make space for lefty Jeremy Horst, who was activated from the paternity leave list. It's temporary, solely because Schwimer will almost certainly be back once rosters expand Sept. 1.
For now, it secures a spot for Phillippe Aumont, who is likely to spend the remainder of the season in the majors.
Schwimer, at times, was one of the more dependable arms in a tattered Phillies bullpen. The 26-year-old righty had a 1.93 ERA in 23 1/3 innings during a two-month stretch that began June 10. Recently, he was hit hard in his previous three outings, surrendering eight hits and five runs in 2 2/3 innings.
The addition of Josh Lindblom took away many of Schwimer's chances in the eighth inning.

What, Josh Lindblom was out of options? If anyone needed to work on things at triple-A... The K Man
Option the manager because he has no clue how to use a young bullpen. They have a few young guys who have all shown flashes of being decent and now they all stink because they're not used correctly. AvoidSundanceVacations- And, as with many other common taters in these pages, you say that based upon your decades of experience as a MLB pitching coach and manager?
BEMiller - Perhaps he says it because like many of us other passionate Phillie fans, we realize this manager ain't about to get us to the World Series or even a division title anytime soon, Mr. Just-Hang-In-There poster.
TEDcGEGI - For all the hate Charlie gets, i wouldn't put it past him to lead us to the playoffs next yr. I want Charlie gone because i think the players could use a new voice, plus he's not gonna be the manager here for much longer anyway and i really don't wanna lose out on Sandberg. Instead of some retread manager, i'd much rather take a shot on an up and coming guy like Ryne. I heard him say he doesn't view himself as a Hall of Famer, just a guy who worked hard and ended up there. We let this guy get away once before, i'd rather it not happen again just so charlie can manage 1 more year. Gotta move on at some point.

And the bullpen door should be more like a revolving door..with direct access to Lehigh Valley. Is Friend the next import from Reading? drhoffman- DeFratus, then Friend, then Michael Cisco (if they were smart...a midget but he gets people OUT)....Ethan Martin with a control meltdown tonight. (knew it was too good to be true).

Yes, option Charlie Manuel to the Shady Grove retirement home. DrumsAndBeer
Ruben likes to make jokes. He said that with Frandsen, Kratz and Horst, you can't tell much from one or two months. Hey Ruben, Horst was dealing last year in Cinncy. Based on his body of work from last year in Cinncy and his effectiveness this year with the Phils, he certainly should be getting the late inning set-up assignment before Lindblow and Bastardumb. Those two are like throwing gas on a fire. dross
rich dubee is the pitching coach you idiots!!!!the manager only goes by what the pitching coach tells him...maybe it's time for dubee to go but i believe the coaching staff will get a pass based on this year's debacle..management will not eat cholly's salary next year and who exactly would replace dubee???save your anger for next year when this roster gets a makeover and then see how well they perform.. jabac
jabac:not trying to get you blood pressure up any more than it seems to be, but Rod Nichols has done wonders with many an arm at LV, and Joe Kerrigan IS always no more than 10 minutes away. bearsfriend- @jabac: Dubee doobee do.
And I would add to what bears imparted that Mr. Manuel likely will not be fired, but if replaced, will be sent aside as a 'special assistant' to the GM or more likely MontCo because that is what the Phils do. Loyalty is everything. Especially among managers who have won things for the organization.
Look for Samuel to take the hit, replaced by Sandberg at third base for 2013. Whether Dubee goes is dependent upon conversations with 33, 34, and 35 after the season. Trust me, they won't be shaking Dubee's tree if the three 'aces' left don't want him to go. 24sDad - I agree that Sandberg will be one of the coaches next year. As for Charlie, he gets a pass this year. You can't win if the players aren't on the field.
hawk18 - Frankly, I'd actually like to see Mr. Manuel step aside for Ryne Sandberg. I really don't want to lose the man all over again!
Much agree about the loyalty aspect, Dad.
And, BTW, Rich Dubee has been one of the better MLB pitching coaches. BEMiller
good move.
