Ask Condrey

Got a question for Phillies relief pitcher Clay Condrey?

E-mail me here and I'll ask him.

Please include your first name, initial of your last name and city and state where you live.

Condrey is an interesting guy. Born and raised in Texas -- the guy absolutely loves his home state -- he made his big-league debut with the San Diego Padres in 2002. He pitched briefly for the Padres in 2003, but didn't return to the big leagues until 2006 with the Phillies. The Phillies sent him down to triple-A a few times last season before he ultimately finished the season with the team. He's also a avid outdoorsman, so I'm sure he can tell you different ways to skin a cat (or whatever).

And in the Holy Crap Department, Shawn Chacon choked Ed Wade and tossed him to the ground.

Uh, yeah, that's kind of frowned upon.

not frowned upon in these parts. how many people here always wanted to do what chacon did. probably more than the amount of people that actualy wished they could play for the team. gillick needs to hurry up and try to trade for oswalt while wade is still woozy from the hit.

Ed Wade, known for choking his own chicken, was choked by Shawn Chacon after being provoked by Wade's no chin chiding. With Wade in charge little is in doubt except for the universal disregard he is held in by his players (and manager, and coaches). Wade, known for keeping things in hand let this situation out of hand, and will likely presage his eventual demise as Astros GM.

Wouldn't it make more sense to D/H Burrell and put Werth in LF in American League ballparks? Werth would have caught the lead-off flair to start the A's seventh inning on Tuesday.

Well, that does it. I am definitely going to turn down any coaching or GM offers I receive. I live in the Scranton area. First, P.J. Carlesimo, who was born and raised in Scranton, is choked by Latrell Sprewell. Now, Ed Wade, a native of Carbondale, which is only a few miles away from me, gets choked by Shawn Chacon. They say bad things happen in threes. I'm not about to be the third local boy choked by a professional athlete.

Chacon has problems, and had problems long before the Wade episode....won't be surprising if he ends up out of baseball for good this time.......now if we can get Oswalt for Gordon/Myers/Werth and a free offer to pay for Gordon's MRI's for life, I'd jump on it. Maybe we can all chip in and pay for Eddie's MRI while we're at it.....

i said the same thing the other day about using Pat as the DH. Some one replied that the reason he gets pulled at the end of games is b/c of his speed on the bases not his defense. don't see that as the reason at all (but he is slow).

I think Howard is the perfect DH, given his shoddy play at 1st base this year. I think you could go back and find 2 or 3 games that he helped cost the Phils with poor defense. But it was nice to see him execute the 3-6-3 DP the other night. That's a play that he has either botched or balked on in the past.

OK. About last night's WIN......GREAT job by Kendrick! And Charlie finally made the right decision, by leaving him in with two on base, to get the rest of the side out. Hope Chase is finally out of his funk! He actually looks a lot better, and more relaxed, at the plate. Hard to believe, with his four hits, that he couldn't have scored or gotten an RBI. Speaking of scoring......I assume Steve Smith waved him around. It wasn't even close at home. Chase saw the tag coming and tried to barrel over the catcher to knock the ball out of his hand. Unfortunately, he hung on. But Chase lost his helmet in the process. LOL!

Tim McCarver has said it before: there's speed on the bases when Pat Burrell's there. Didn't he have that triple the other week??

Kendrick got a great lesson on pitching inside from Moyer's performance the previous night. He was still hitting 92 on the gun in the 8th...It was good to see some runs being manufactured last night. Werth is probably the best lead-off hitter for the team, because he has speed and, more importantly, he runs deep counts, just like that Boston line-up

Terrific to see Kendrick bounce back after his last start. I was thrilled to see Chase almost went the cycle. That's so encouraging. Let's hope they can make it two in a row this afternoon!! GO PHILS!
