April 6 - Phillies vs. Diamondbacks
Todd Zolecki
Disappointing loss for the Phils in the sense that Adam Eaton is showing signs from 2007, when he had a 6.29 ERA. At least Eaton was honest when he talked about walking Randy Johnson on four pitches in the fourth inning:
"I f----d up."
*
Eric Bruntlett knocked in Shane Victorino in the fifth with a double and Jayson Werth hit a solo homer in the sixth to make it 6-4.
*
So Taguchi pinch-hit for Adam Eaton. In four innings, Eaton allowed five hits, six runs, three walks and one home run. He struck out one. He has a 5.63 ERA.
*
Adam Eaton suffered a fourth inning meltdown as the Diamondbacks took a 6-2 lead. He walked Justin Upton to start the inning. Mark Reynolds then ripped a ball to right field. Jayson Werth got to the ball in time, but the ball hit the heel of his glove and bounced out for a double to put runners on second and third. Eaton then walked Miguel Montero to load the bases with no outs.
Augie Ojeda flied out to shallow center to keep the runners at bay.
But then Eaton walked Randy Johnson on four pitches to score Upton to make it 2-2. Chris Young's fielder's choice scored Reynolds to make it 3-2. Stephen Drew then smacked a three-run homer to right to make it 6-2.

The Phillies took a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Eric Bruntlett hit a two-run homer to left field. He entered tonight hitting .292 (14 for 48) with six RBIs in his previous 13 games.
Billy(Conlin ?), I would never presume to know all the facts regarding Floyd, he's not worth my time looking up his stats at his past failings, I am only concerned with the here and now.....he has publicly come out recently and basically blamed the Phils mgmt with fouling up the last 5 years of his life.....and please don't insult me like that, I am not truth, I have been in the game as a player, coach consultant/talent evaluator and medical professional for 42 years! Unless your resume reads better than that, please save your lectures for someone else..... Mark1npt
Zo.....THANK YOU so much for *deleting* the comment about Corey Lidle's plane crash!!! Now if you could delete ANY reference to *wife beating*, that would be great. Norma
Mark, you haven't played or coached at a significant level because if you did, you would a) realize Gavin Floyd's time was up here, and b) know that 6 good starts doesn't make a bonifide Major League pitcher...especially when said pitcher couldn't get anyone out his first four season at the Major League level. I gave you the here and now about Gavin Floyd. I put a little basis behind what I post and I suggest you do the same. Otherwise, people like me, that provide a little bit of facts, make you and Truth look like baffoons. Gavin Floyd will finish the year with an era over 5.00...if the White Sox give him the chance too. He can say what he wants about the Philles screwing him up...what else is he going to do, blame himself?!?!? ...you'll see. Gavin Floyd pitches on Sunday @ Seattle. The first edition of "Gavin Floyd: Here Today, Baggin' Groceries by Spring Training 2010" starts Monday morning. Billy The Kid
In the three seasons before this one Gavin Floyd was 6-10 with an ERA around 6.00, 185 hits and 67 walks in 150 innings pitched. That's about 15 guys on base per nine innings. The Phillies gave him every chance to succeed here (probably too many in 2004-05, when they lost out on the wild card by a couple of games) and the Phillies screwed him up? Did they tell him to lob meatballs over the plate? Two others to add to the illustrious no-hitter log-Joe Cowley and Annibal Sanchez, who threw one for the Marlins in 2006 and has won two games since then. If you want to criticize the Phillies for getting a broken down Freddy Garcia in 2007 that's more than fair. let's not pretend that we gave away Cy Young when we threw Gavin Floyd into the deal.
