April 25 - Phillies vs. Pirates

Follow tonight's action between the Phillies and Pirates.

April 25 - Phillies vs. Pirates

Wha-wha-wha-what? Adam Eaton had allowed one hit through three innings, but got yanked with two outs in the fourth after he allowed four extra-base hits in the fourth to cut the Phillies lead to 6-3. Charlie Manuel wasn't happy with Eaton. Eaton got to 3-0 on Brian Bixler and Manuel already headed up the steps. Once Eaton walked Bixler on four pitches, Manuel stepped onto the field and chucked his gum to the side.

Chad Durbin, who entered with a 0.60 ERA in 11 appearances, allowed two runs in the fifth to make it 6-5.

Charlie Manuel is looking pretty smart. He juggled his lineup and it's really paid off. Brad Harman, making his first big-league start (moving Chase Utley from second to first in the process), got his first big-league hit, a double to left-center field in the fourth inning that scored Eric Bruntlett to make it 5-0.

Jayson Werth homered to center in the third to make it 3-0. Pat Burrell then doubled with two outs and scored on Chris Coste's single to center. Coste is 2 for 2 with three RBIs in the five hole. He had been sick this week, which was why he hadn't played more. Guess he's feeling better.

The Phillies took a 2-0 lead in the first when Chris Coste, hitting fifth for the first time in his big-league career, hit a two-out, two-run double to left-center field to score Jayson Werth and Chase Utley. Third base coach Ramon Henderson, who is filling in for Steve Smith tonight and tomorrow night, did a nice job sending Utley.

Here's tonight's Phillies lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park: 1) Taguchi, RF 2) Werth, CF 3) Utley, 1B 4) Burrell, LF 5) Coste, C 6) Feliz, 3B 7) Bruntlett, SS 8) Harman, 2B 9) Eaton, P.

Utley is playing first base for the first time since Sept. 9. He has played 24 games in his career at first base. He's playing there because Charlie Manuel wants to give Ryan Howard another day off. Manuel said he might even rest Howard tomorrow, although it's more likely he plays against righthander Matt Morris.
