Amaro to Be Named Tonight

The Phillies will name Ruben Amaro Jr. their general manager tonight, a source confirmed.

A news conference will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

The Inquirer wrote Monday that Amaro was expected to be named Pat Gillick's replacement 24 to 48 hours within the final out of the World Series or after Gillick's three-year contract with the Phillies expired on Friday. Amaro leaves for California tomorrow for the GM meetings in Dana Point, Calif. Assistant general manager Mike Arbuckle won't be back with the team.
