The Chicago Cubs drafted Greg Maddux in the second round in the 1984 June amateur draft. They drafted Jamie Moyer in the sixth round.

They faced each other last night as the Phillies beat the Padres at Petco Park, 1-0.

But could they face each other again next year?

“I don’t know if he’s going to play,” Moyer said. “I am.”

It's very cool watching Moyer, 45, and Maddux, 42, go at it. Like Charlie Manuel said after the game, "It just goes to show when you know what you're doing with the baseball ... you don't have to throw 95 to 100 to get it done. That's what that shows. Good command is what it's all about. Putting the ball where you want it. One night when he gave up two home runs to (Mike) Jacobs from Marlins, I asked him, 'Where were those pitches at?' And he said, 'Believe me, if I put them where I wanted them to go he won't him them.' The next time he pitched agianst him, he got him out. I'm sure Maddux does the same thing."

The victory snapped the Phillies' four-game losing streak and kept them a game behind the Mets in the NL East.

Pat Burrell hit a solo homer to left field in the seventh to provide the game's only run.

It was Burrell’s 28th homer of the season, and his first since Aug. 1. Burrell entered last night hitting just .074 (2 for 27) with one RBI in his previous nine games, and just .174 (12 for 69) with two homers and nine RBIs in his previous 21 games.

Both Manuel and Moyer credited Jimmy Rollins for an oustanding game defensively. He made a few great plays that kept Moyer out of trouble.

The Phillies are trying to keep an eye on their bullpen so it's fresh for the stretch run.
