Back to Colorado

Monday, April 21, 2008, 11:00 AM
It feels like it happened a loooooong time ago, but just six months ago the Colorado Rockies ended the Phillies' first trip to the postseason since 1993 by sweeping them in the NL division series. It's the night the lights went out. Remember that? "It's unfortunate," Jamie Moyer said... Read more

April 21 - Phillies vs. Rockies

Monday, April 21, 2008, 6:50 PM
The Phillies win, 9-5. I'd say something about how the Phillies got revenge on the Rockies after last year's showing in the NLDS, but I find that a little ridiculous. One regular season win doesn't erase getting swept in the playoffs. But the victory gets them back to .500. * How about Carlos Ruiz?... Read more

The Big Man Struggles, People Notice

Sunday, April 20, 2008, 10:31 AM
There is more to this puzzle than just Ryan Howard. The Phillies haven't had Jimmy Rollins in their starting lineup since April 8. They haven't had Shane Victorino in their lineup since April 12. Pedro Feliz is hitting .203. Carlos Ruiz is hitting .213. Geoff Jenkins is hitting .228. The Phillies... Read more

John Marzano: An Appreciation

Sunday, April 20, 2008, 10:17 AM
I can't say I knew John Marzano well, but every time I talked with him he couldn't have been nicer to me. Jim Salisbury knew him better. He covered him as a player. Salisbury tells some good Marzano stories in appreciation of the man. "Come on, man, you know where I'm from," Marzano once... Read more

Rollins Finally Lands on DL

Sunday, April 20, 2008, 4:17 PM
The Phillies finally placed Jimmy Rollins on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle. The move seemed obvious. In fact, it probably should have been made earlier. Rollins said he felt his ankle has improved a little every day, but it clearly hasn't improved enough. And at some point... Read more

Santana Proves His Worth

Saturday, April 19, 2008, 12:45 PM
The Phillies downplayed Johan Santana's arrival to the New York Mets. He's just one pitcher, they said. He only pitches every five days, they said. But deep down, Jim Salisbury writes, the Phillies knew better. They knew Santana made them much tougher. They knew that if the Mets had Santana last... Read more

Marzano Found Dead

Saturday, April 19, 2008, 5:14 PM
John Marzano died today at 45. According to The Associated Press, police say Marzano was found dead at his home in Philadelphia. The cause was not immediately clear. Marzano played in the major leagues for the Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners before retiring in 1998. He also played... Read more

Hamels vs. Santana I

Friday, April 18, 2008, 11:03 AM
Cole Hamels said Wednesday that he couldn't care less about who he's pitching against tonight at Citizens Bank Park. Hey, that's OK. But everybody else does. It doesn't get much better than Hamels vs. Johan Santana. When the Mets acquired Santana from the Minnesota Twins this winter, everybody envisioned... Read more

Kendrick's Night Is Wasted

Thursday, April 17, 2008, 10:24 AM
At least Kyle Kendrick pitched well. But the Phillies' offense fell short in last night's 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros. The Phillies have scored just 64 runs in their first 15 games this season, which ranks 10th in the National League. That's 29 fewer runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks, who lead... Read more
