Friday, March 27, 2009, 12:50 PM
Good morning from Kissimmee, where the Phillies play the Astros, and Roy Oswalt, at 1:05. Here’s the lineup: Victorino CF Bruntlett 1B Utley 2B Werth RF Ibanez LF Feliz 3B Cairo SS Coste C Myers P I was very impressed by two responses in particular to last night’s SAT... Read more

Phillies acquire lefty Taschner

Friday, March 27, 2009, 10:01 PM
Funny, Rich Dubee was just telling me this morning that he wanted another lefty. More on that in the paper tomorrow, and more on this: the Phillies traded C Ronny Paulino to the San Francisco Giants for LHP Jack Taschner Friday night. Last season, Taschner, 30, was 3-2 with a 4.88 earned run average... Read more

Carrasco takes on the Yankees

Thursday, March 26, 2009, 12:59 PM
Here's the lineup for the Phillies' 1:05 game against the Yankees. Should be an interesting test for Carlos Carrasco. One interesting non-Phillies note: the Yanks are leading off with Derek Jeter and batting Johnny Damon second, which I hear they're considering for the season. Sounds like a good... Read more

3/26 Wrap

Thursday, March 26, 2009, 6:40 PM
One thing I’ve noticed over the past several days: the mood around this team is becoming more serious. I arrived in Clearwater on March 1, and for weeks, the locker room had a post-party feel. It’s not that people weren’t working hard, but they were being asked about the World Series... Read more

I arrived in Clearwater on March 1, so I’m not sure who these two new guys are at the top of the order. I’ll check in with Ruben Amaro Jr. and provide updates as we work to identify them. The lineup for the Phillies 1:05 game in Dunedin against Toronto: Rollins SS Victorino CF Utley... Read more

Between Dunedin and three simultaneous minor league games, a whole lotta baseball today. Rollins, Victorino, Hamels, Blanton, Romero, Utley’s first home run, Chan Ho... We had most of it covered in previous posts updated throughout the day, and there isn’t much I can add, other than to... Read more

Hamels pitches, feels good

Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 3:25 PM
Cole Hamels threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings in a minor league game against Pirates farmhands this afternoon. Most important, he reported no tightness and inflammation in his left elbow. Second most important, he allowed no runs, one hit, one walk, and struck our five, throwing 35 of 48 pitches for strikes... Read more

Kendrick sent to minors

Monday, March 23, 2009, 11:58 AM
The Phillies today optioned RHP Kyle Kendrick to the minor leagues, where he will likely pitch for the Triple A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. This ends Kendrick's attempt to begin the season as the Phillies' fifth starter, of course. They also optioned C Lou Marson and INF Brad Harman. We'll do everything... Read more

Donald sent down

Monday, March 23, 2009, 5:03 PM
After batting .296 and impressing Charlie Manuel with his hustle and dedication, INF Jason Donald was reassigned to minor league camp after starting at shortstop and going 0 for 3 today. LHP Jake Woods and RHP Dave Borkowsi were also reassigned. Read more
