Game 93: Sizemore’s Debut

The Phillies are putting Grady Sizemore to work right away. After appearing in 11 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, the three-time all-star outfielder was recalled on Thursday evening and is in tonight’s starting lineup against the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park.

He will bat leadoff and play center field.

Sizemore, who missed the two previous seasons due to injury, began this year with the Boston Red Sox. He Batted .216 (40 for 185) and after being released, the Phillies signed him.

In 11 games at Lehigh Valley he batted .283 (13 for 46) with one home run and two RBIs.

The Phillies (41-51) are coming off a four-game sweep in Milwaukee and are nine games behind the Nationals in the N.L. East. They are also nine games out of the second wild card spot.

A.J. Burnett (5-8, 3.92 ERA) opposes Nationals righthander Jordan Zimmerman (6-4 2.79).
