ST. LOUIS -- Righthander Aaron Nola, the Phillies first round draft choice from LSU, will make his professional debut on Monday night for advanced Single-A Clearwater.

Phillies radio announcer Jim Jackson tweeted the news after interviewing Phillies director of player development Joe Jordan on their pre-game show.

When contacted, Jordan told The Inquirer that Nola would be starting in Monday’s 6:30 p.m. game at Lakeland.

Nola was the No. 7 overall pick in MLB’s First-Year Player Draft.

Should the Phillies consider trading Cole Hamels?
Yes. It’s the best way to rebuild the team.
No. He’s the piece to rebuild around.

He was signed for a slot deal $3.3 million and there was some conjecture that he might even start at Double-A Reading.

This season Nola was 11-1 with a 1.47 ERA. He struck out 134 and walked 27 in 116 innings.

If Nola fares well at Clearwater it wouldn’t be out of the question for him to pitch late this season at Double-A Reading.

Clearwater, which is just 19-52, is suddenly a destination with many of the Phillies top prospects.

Shortstop J.P. Crawford, The Inquirer’s No. 2 prospect, was promoted from Lakewood to Clearwater on Wednesday. Crawford had his first hits for the Threshers on Saturday, going 2 for 4 with a double during a 5-4 win over Lakeland.
