Game 67: Howard gets a rest

With the Chicago Cubs going with lefthander Travis Wood (6-5, 4.95), Ryan Howard is out of the Phillies lineup for today’s series finale at Citizens Bank Park.

John Mayberry Jr. will get the start at first base. Mayberry is batting .316 (12 for 38) with three home runs and 12 RBIs this season against lefthanders.

Howard is hitting .206 (13 for 63) with four home runs, 15 RBIs and 30 strikeouts against lefties.

In addition, Ronny Cedeno will get his first start for the Phillies. Cedeno is batting eighth and playing third base.

A.J. Burnett (3-5 4.41)opposes Wood.

The Phillies have won four of five on this homestand, sweeping with San Diego and splitting Chicago. The Cubs have the second worst winning percentage in the National League, right ahead of San Diego.
