WASHINGTON -- For the third straight game, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel goes for career win No. 1,000 when the Phillies close out their series in Washington with a 5:05 p.m. game against the Nationals.

Manuel is 999-823 (.548) as a Major League manager. He is 779-663 (.552) in nine seasons with the Phillies.

The Phillies are also looking to snap a 10-game road losing streak after losing on Friday and Saturday here at Nationals Park.

To demonstrate how poorly things have gone for the Phillies, the “big” pregame news is that Michael Martinez is making his fourth consecutive start, one at shortstop and now the last three in center field.

Manuel said before the game that nothing is wrong with John Mayberry Jr., but that he just wants to give Martinez a chance.

“Martinez has been swinging good so I just wanted to leave him out there,” Manuels said.

In the last three starts, Martinez has gone 4 for 11 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Phillies will send Kyle Kendrick (10-8, 4.36 ERA) against Stephen Strasburg (5-9, 3.01).

Here is the Phillies lineup.

1. Jimmy Rollins, SS

2. Kevin Frandsen, 1B

3. Chase Utley, 2B

4. Domonic Brown, LF

5. Darin Ruf, RF

6. Cody Asche, 3B

7. Erik Kratz, C

8. Michael Martinez, CF

9. Kyle Kendrick, RHP
