Stinks of desperation. It is amazing how you can have no confidence in a team that is in first place. I honestly go into every game expecting a loss. No matter how bad they are going, this is still a very good team and I, as a fan, should not feel this way. Seems the manager is sharing my emotion and that is not good.

Trade somebody! Let`s get a big time pitcher.I would trade Burrell or Howard(Mr.K)because the Phils aren`t going to be able to resign either one.I`d release So and try to deal Myers(head case)as a closer.Anybody have any other suggestions?

I was watching Daily News Live and one of Mitch Williams suggestions was to shake the line-up. He thought sometimes the silliest/smallest thing can make a difference. It certainly can't hurt.

What's next, batting practice in the hotel lobby, using Whiffle Ball bats? Honestly, there's a very good chance that they will eventually win a game again - and then more.

I'm Ok with this-can they possibly hit any worse than they have the last six games? I've wanted Cholly to bat Utley/Burrell/Howard 3/4/5 since last year, to split up the lefties.

At least they had a lead last night. It had been about a week since they had one of those. Baby steps!!

WOW... Is Charlie tied up in the clubhouse? Who filled out the line up card? Were darts involved? I didn't think Charlie knew he could change the order of lineup. Todd, there is a scoop here.

just when we thought we got the line up 1 thru 5 locked up like 93 Phillies (dude, mickey, krukker, dutch, hollins), with JRoll, vic, chase, howard and burrel, Manuel just HAD to F things up.

How is this desperate??? It's called "managing a baseball team". And sometimes that involves something basic like "changing the lineup". I mean they haven't been hitting for anything with their usual lineup, why stick with it? Everyone is over-exaggerating this to the extreme. Desperation would be having Hamels be the DH since Jenkins looks like he's blindfolded and swinging at a pinata up there.

And I don't think the Dude, Mickey, Kruk, Dutch or hollins were struggling to keep their average over the mendoza line while simultaneously making 10mil on their way to becoming the strikeout king (again). When that isn't the case, then we can go ahead and lock down the lineup.

Good job Cholly, something needed to be done. Awesome outing by Kendrick. Now lets get on a roll!

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Follow him on Twitter here.

Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
