Jimmy Rollins is flying to San Francisco today and will join the team tomorrow at AT&T Park.
Rollins has been on the DL since April 20 with a sprained left ankle. The Phillies said Rollins' arrival in San Francisco does not guarantee he will be activated before tomorrow night's game. Athletic trainer Scott Sheridan will test Rollins' ankle first before he is activated.

Thank God, not a moment too soon. Can Bruntlet play first? jimmymack
I second that jimmymack. He's been hitting the ball well as of late. And let's be honest, playing 1st isn't rocket science. So I would put him there, sit Howard for a bit, and see what happens. Deb in Dixie
Great suggestion jimmymack! It will be great to have J-Roll back. I hope he hasnt lost any speed and/or power. KarenA
Hey now..I made this suggest first in the thread under last nights game!! Give credit where credit it due ya'll! :) And J-Roll numbers from his last few rehab games have looked good. Plus, you can't put a price on the leadership he'll add to the locker room. Deb in Dixie
Comment removed.- Yes, can't wait for Jimmy to be back in the leadoff spot. That would be a good time to move Howard to 5 behind Burrell... for now. Different topic: Is anyone else getting tired of Brett Myers giving up the home run ball? bobby
Full credit to Deb for the Bruntlett crack. And how can Myers intimidate a batter with that stupid looking goatee? LOL. This is painful to watch. jimmymack
Brutal. Painful. I'm sure his amazing conditioning has nothing to do with it. John in LA- I think we might just have to start facing the fact that Brett Myers is nothing more than a so-so 3rd man in the rotation. Guess that '2-for-1' idea when we got Lidge is down the drain. bobby
Good point John. Forget Reading, they should just send Brett and Howard to fat camp until one learns to pitch and the other learns to hit. ejn214- Myers today: 101 pitches, 9 hits, 6 earned runs, all in 5 innings. If I was Todd I'd have a little fun and throw this question Brett's way after the game: "How'd you feel out there today?" bobby
- I'm surprised the Phillies ran Adam Eaton out there again today after only one day's rest :Q Is anyone else besides me getting tired of seeing the Phillies pack it in on getaway day? (Cincy8-Phils2,NY4-Phils3,Pitts5-Phils1 and now today's drubbing). The Phillies need to play out the series before they get on the plane/train for the next town. RAS
Great idea putting Bruntlett at first, Deb! LOL! I was a little annoyed they pulled Chase instead of Howard. Chase's #'s are pretty good against Webb. But.....Ryno did get an RBI single. Think this is a turn-a-round? LOL! Norma
Maybe J-roll can pull Howard out of his horrible slump. Something needs to happen soon. I like the idea of putting Howard on the DL to get him some serious time off. Its not like they're really gonna miss his production right now, it cant get too much worse...can it? Clinton, NJ

Dobbs or Coste can play 1st for a week or so... or move utley to 1st and bruntlett to 2nd... Howard needs to get his head examined... joeycuz
Can I get some credit here? When the trade for Lidge went down I stated that Myers is not a front end of the rotation guy. Truth said he is a 3-4 starter 12-15 win guy on most WINNING teams. I will say if the Phils could get a true ACE to go along with Hamels for Howard I would do it in a heartbeat. As it is they have no chance with this rotation in the playoffs. ZIP ZERO. Truth
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. jimmymack
If Myers is a 12-15 game winner, I will take that as a number 2, which he actually is on this team, he just happens to be in front of Hamels in the order because of Opening Day. He needs to figure something out though, right now he's barely a #5. Gary Varsho
Anybody else notice the 2 biggest disappointments so far this year - Myers and Howard - have serious conditioning issues? What's most troubling is the fact that both are totally healthy. It's amazing the Phils are where they are considering Hamels has also been bad every other start. Hopefully Rollins will get back this weekend. John in LA
And Truth, you get partial credit - I'd say Myers is a 2.5 starter. I totally agree I would trade Howard for an ace in a second. John in LA
I'm not so sure Howard has conditioning issues. Remember the articles about him going to a spa for a 4-5 week period just before spring training? Supposedly, he came to camp in great shape and he looked trim in spring training when he just had a warmup shirt on at BP. He doesn't look nearly as chubby as he did last year. Myers though always looks like he has a gut. Howard and Myers both seem to suffer from some coachability issues, they want Ryan to move into the plate, he resists; Dubee wants Myers to do long toss, throw more fastballs, he resists. Maybe they suffer more from fat heads. jimmymack
At this point, Howards trade value may only decline - so if they could get real value , a true ace + , I would do it. Oddly enough, 2 months ago I would have said no way to that thought. Gary Varsho
Gary 2 month's from now you'll probably say no way again. Even if Howard gets hot it doesn't change the fact that you need at minimum 2 stud pitchers to achieve anything in the playoff's. Trade him ASAP period Move Utley to first and use a utility player/bruntlet at second.I know we are being more positive but that is by far the biggest failing of P.G. Whats the point of trading for closer when you have one in Myers. Myers never has won more than 13? games in a season and all of sudden Gillick assumed that he was going to break out this year after having a severe shoulder strain that sidelined him for 2+ month's last season. It's very flawed at best. It's sad b/c Chase and Burrell are peaking J Roll is coming of an MVP year and you know Howard will swing the bat better. I would have broken the bank for Santana given the Twins Carrasco and Savery/Drabek/Bourn combo and paid him and we would have been unbeatable and sold out every game and it would have paid for itself. If the phils are so concerned about TV money why the heck don't they get a better deal or start a network? Truth
I have an issue with moving Chase to first base. He's really coming into his own, defensively, at second. We'd be breaking up a great double play combo. J.Roll & Chase are really in tune to each other since they've been doing it so long. They rarely miss. Since first is an easier defensive position, move Bruntlett. Norma- Getting a true ace in return for Howard gives you at best the ability to win only 20% of your games. That's why you never trade good hittng for good (starting) pitching. Howard will have at least 10 home runs by next weekend, and all will be fine in Mudville. Look for him to get cranked up next week against the Braves. RAS
You never trade good hitting for good pitching-huh. Did you see the Colorado series last year? Do you see what Boston has been accomplishing the last few years? Possibly a trade is not the answer after all Howard is still a bargain in the overall sense. Either way they need a top flight pitcher or they're done for. Why can't we ever seem to get one of the Japenese pitchers that seem to win 14-17 gms for other teams? Why do we not have a 22 year old flame throwing Dominican after all these years? RAS so what if he has 10 homers? Is that more important than two days out of five you know you only have to put up 2-3 runs to win? I'm not turning on Howard just looking at the big picture for the Phillies. Truth
Truth - I wonder about your about face on Howard? RAS - I'll give you 10-1 that Howard won't have 10 HR by next weekend, and even if he does, it doesn't matter if he doesn't start getting more hits in general. We already have Pedro Feliz to hit a home run once a week and get no other hits. Gary Varsho
I doubt you can get value for Howard. What "ace" is available out there? It takes two teams to make a trade, who in their right mind will trade their ace now for a guy in a protracted slump at 10MM a year? This isn't fantasy baseball. He's here for this year, if he turns it around (35-45 HR's), maybe in the offseason. IMHO. jimmymack
Jimmymack - its possible by the trade deadline, if there is a team that is out of it (who thought they may be close to contending) they may be willing to deal. For example, CC Sabathia from the Indians, since he needs a new contract. They may be willing to do something, of course we would run the risk of not being able to re-sign him, but there is potential for something along those lines to happen. Gary Varsho- Players are like stocks. You sell only when they are flying high. I think it's nuts to talk about trading Ryan Howard now, when he's making news for how bad he's doing. Keep him, fix him, get him back to MVP form, and then maybe think about a trade. Best time would be 2 years prior to free agency, so the acquiring team knows they have him for more than just one season. This kind of reminds me of the Phils' handling of Abreu. They could have traded him for real value just after he won the HR contest at the all-star game. Instead they kept him, he stopped hitting homers, and they ended up practically giving him away to the Yanks. bobby
Abreu was never worth anything after lil Eddie signed him to that monster contract. The Phillies have to many chips to be a team that relies on 2-3 bats to keep them going. I remember the Cards of the 60's they had good teams up and down the order. The Phillies are worthless after the five hole and some would say the 2 position is pretty worthless as well. They need depth and just just off the bench. For once they msy not need to add to the 'penand I wish P.G. would do something drastic. They have two seasons incl this one and the window closes unless he gets creative. Truth- Bad trades pitcher for hitter: Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas. Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson. Roger Maris for Don Larsen.... closer to home - Nick Punto for Eric Milton. Johnny Estrada for Kevin Millwood. The only trade that I could find that clearly went to the pitcher was Delino Deshields for Pedro Martinez ***** I'll take the 10-1 odds from Gary Varsho on Howard having 10 HR by next Sunday's (May 18) game boxscore. Loser sends a check to winner's charity of choice. What's the wager Gary? RAS
No way in hexx do I trade Howard for CC Sabathia. I agree that a trade can happen, but Bobby is right on, you sell high, not low. jimmymack
