Game 156: The final 2012 game at Citizens Bank Park

POSTED: Thursday, September 27, 2012, 3:38 PM

The Phillies are 40-40 at Citizens Bank Park and look to secure a winning season at home for the 11th consecutive season. Tonight is the home finale against the Washington Nationals.

As Matt Gelb pointed out today, Phillies (78-77) need a 4-3 finish to guarantee a franchise-record 10th consecutive year above .500.

After tonight’s game with the Nationals, the Phillies finish with six on the road, three in Miami and three in Washington.

Tyler Cloyd (2-1, 3.86) faces Gio Gonzalez (20-8 2.84) in the home finale.

Here is the Phillies lineup

1. Jimmy Rollins, SS

2. Kevin Frandsen, 3B

3. Chase Utley, 2B

4. Ryan Howard, 1B

5. John Mayberry, Jr., CF

6. Darin Ruf, LF

7. Domonic Brown, RF

8. Erik Kratz, C

9. Tyler Cloyd, P

Gio Gonzalez...20 wins! Hard to believe he was a throw-in in a trade 5 years ago, after a 7-12, 4.66 ERA at Reading double-A...oh the humanity of it all!

I like that Frandsen dude cause when he struck out yesterday, he was pissed off and showed some emotions instead of like the others that just walk away and say...oh well, im getn paid anyway!!!

Oh, i forgot my prediction.....Phillies get hammered again, Cloyd has that same slow pitch stuff that Kendrick has and Washington seems to like that style of pitching. He will give up 4 runs by the fourth inning, and once again, i hope this wont happen, but its inevitable!!!!

Hopefully charlie will pull him late and put in "Wiggy" because his ridiculous "loyalty" to veteran players has done this team SO much good.

Good to see Mayberry batting 5th. He should provide some protection for Howard. The Tonner's seen enough of Mayberry, he doesn't want to see anymore. Give the Tonner a break.

Romus - Gio was hardly a throw-in. He was the cornerstone of that trade.

Five guys in the line-up from AAA or AA! They make Mayberry look like an old timer.

bigger issue with Gio is not that Phils traded him away long time ago but how Washingotn Nationals were smart enough to trade for him entering into his prime....name the last young talented player Rube has EVER acquired (Pence was closest to an acquisition of someone not on the decline of his career and that was a disaster as he overpaid for a deeply flawed player) .. bottom line CLuless rube is an inbecile who know nothign about talent --and just overspent on washed up old-age candidates like Ibanez and Polanco and Contreras, and that's why he has a mediocre team with the highest budget in the league while competent g.m.'s spend much lees for a much better product ...biggest issue is why this imbecile is still employed

I'm thrilled they are still playing the kid. This gives him incentive for next year and also gives the fans something they have been wanting to see.

Frandsen is a gamer but writers leave him out of '13 speculation for the most part. Hitting .330...plays hard, unlike the wealthy guy to his left.
