Jim Thome said there’s not much new to report on his back. Thome was replaced in the fifth inning of Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs due to back tightness.

“It’s no worse and about the same as yesterday,”  Thome said before today’s game with the Cubs at Citizens Bank Park.

When asked if he would be available today to pinch hit, Thome wasn’t sure. He said he planned to see a doctor before the game.

Carlos Ruiz isn’t in the starting lineup, but as he walked through the locker room he said he was feeling fine. Ruiz took a foul ball off his knee on Saturday in the sixth inning, but played the rest of the game and hit a home run in the sixth inning.
