Amaro Updates Phillies Injury Situation

POSTED: Friday, April 27, 2012, 5:45 PM

Phillies general manger Ruben Amaro Jr. says that an MRI disclosed that lefthander Cliff Lee has a Grade 1 left external oblique strain.

“That is kind of what we thought it would be,” Amaro said before tonight’s game with the Chicago Cubs.

Amaro stressed that he doesn't know the timetable for Lee, who is eligible to come off the disabled list on May 4 when the Phillies open a weekend series in Washington.

“We’d only like to have him miss a couple of starts but if he has to miss 3-4 starts then that is what it will be,” Amaro said. “Hopefully it will be shorter than that.”

Amaro said that reliever Michael Stutes has a mild right rotator cuff strain and will likely be shut down from throwing for two to three weeks.

As for Chase Utley’s injured knees, Amaro was encouraged.

“I think in a week or so we will see where he stands but he seems to be progressing really well,” he said.

Amaro had no update on Ryan Howard who has been limited since Feb. 27, when he required a procedure to clean an infection from his original Achilles tendon surgery wound.

Howard saw a wound specialist on Monday. Amaro said Howard was expected to see a wound specialist soon for another visit.

This Cliff Lee deal smells bad. He's had oblique strains are becoming recurrent and will likely be an annual problem. Based on how the Phillies underestimated past injuries, he won't be back until June.

To bad about Lee but Kendrick is a horrible replacement. That needs to be fixed before they start him again. He is a loser for sure.

Entire team will be locked and loaded by mid June.
    It'll be fine.
Key to the year is Worley is the real deal. 4 aces, even with one out for awhile will keep them close.

...Could you even imagine Ruben being a batboy with a Phillies uniform on stacking bats, chewing on sunflower seeds sitting on the end of the bench? Ohh wait...

Are you dudes serious or all 12 years old? Except for WFC you all should go back to the schoolyard and pick your fights.....

@tulsa....Amaro cannot disclose any health info unless given the right by Utley. Utley guards his own info closely. He held one press conference when he went on the dl to let us know what the problem was, he'll probably hold another when he's about to come back....but we'll probably never know until his retirement press conference exactly how much damage there was.

Y'all should know there's a couple guys on here who think they're the only ones who know anything about baseball. The one writes in paragraphs like he's a writer and we all come here to see his posts. Even still imho there is in fact a lot of stupid stuff tonight. So there's my stupid post on top of the steaming pile.

Two things the Phillies need to do. 1. Get rid of Chirlie.2 Get rid of Gross. They (Phillies) could not beat the little sisters of the poor!!!!!!!!!!!
